SE SR 1st gen owner, parked outside and washed regularly. I noticed the rear spoiler and the spoiler mount (rear plastic tailgate) is very mat looking with no metallic shine to it. I slid my finger to realize its more sticky than other painted plastic parts. The rest of the painted parts are looking prefectly well as it should be.

It almost looks like the clear coat was burnt off but it is only the top side of plastic piece mat color, like the top coat was burned off from the sun. Back side and under the spoiler looks metallic black but the top looks horrible.

Anyone had similar paint defect? I'm sure car wasn't like this when I bought it a year ago, and its near impossible to burn the top coat in this short amount of time. photo_2024-11-18_14-25-09.jpgphoto_2024-11-18_14-25-14.jpg

I think there are other posts on this.
IIRC the solution was to polish it up and some had it done under warranty.

I did search on the forum but no avail. Could you perhaps link the thread?

I don't think the dealer will do anything but laugh at me so I will go to a detailer for advice.

This must be a wrong prep procedure or defective paint quality during manufacturing that caused this. It doesn't bother me for now but I'm sure if I don't take any actions it will worsen over time and end up with repainting the tailgate.

I would be tempted to try a bit of Autoglym Super Resin Polish (other brands are available) on a very small patch of that and see if it comes back.

Pretty certain those parts aren’t painted, I don’t think they’re colour coded that’s for sure

Same here - but spoke to technicians at my local dealership and the said to make a warranty claim. Half way through a 2 yr PCP so gonna wait until 6 months before end of finance.

Mine was looking a bit faded, so I went over it with T Cut and then a bit of a polish up and it looks ok, weird thing though it shows as white on my security camera, it's actually black

Your security camera is probably using infrared to enhance the night time image and as it's rubber/plastic it doesn't lose heat as quickly, and so shows up white.

As above, plastic and metal painted the same colour look completely different in IR light.

As others have said, try a polish first. I use Supagard Paintseal Cream and it's brought the plastic back like new. Polish seems to work better than plastic trim cleaner in my experience.

I suspect that the part is not weather-resistant and acid-resistant.
Used asphalt remover to clean the paint that flew down from the upstairs (usually acetone), which also caused unsightly residue.

have seen 2-3 cases similar to yours.

...... just to add if polishing works I'd then put some sealant on it to give it some protection and repeat every 2 or 3 months.
