Hi all, we had our telematics box changed due to an issue with the ecall system. Since then, we havent been able to use the app and the location shows the car dealership from over a week ago

Any ideas?

Its back in the dealership this morning. Tried unbinding/binding, clearing cache while there but nothing worked. They said they are going to try updating the software in the infotainment system and run diagnostics.

It does seem like the car isnt communicating with the app so hopefully they will find it quickly. Out of interest, does the telematics box have a sim card in it? I was tempted to press the emergency call button to see if that was working.

Yes there is a sim card. I believe it is on the Vodafone network, but I could be mistaken.

Do we think there is an actual physical simcard in the unit somewhere. ?

I know on other units they just use a chipset that sort of has it built in.

Nowadays, that is probably what would be called an e-sim.

Our MKii car spent far too long rectifying this issue - they replaced the aerial on the top of the car, the wiring looms behind the dash and updated the TBox software. Either the Telecombox software or the wiring loom fixed the issue. HTHs.

They checked for updates, none needed so were stumped. They have now requested some sort of assistance from MG. It worked pretty fine before they changed the telematics box. Just called me and they want it in for the day to run more tests.

Dealers have had the car in again today. Completely reloaded the car and phone software and the app still doesn't connect. Mechanic doesn't have a clue what to do now. Mentioned changing a TE box. Any ideas?

Car in yet again today. MG suggested trying a different phone. No joy, didnt think it would work as the car isnt communicating with the server.
In desperation, they tried fitting another cars t box and et box to see what happened. Nothing at all. Funny thing is when they tried it on the new phone, the last updated status was the date they swapped out the original one.

They tried a new TBox on our car but could not get the car to talk to the Tbox. Putting new software on the original TBox seems to have helped along with the aerial/wiring changes.

New software on the old Tbox? Im pretty sure they reset the software on the new tbox. Its starting to become a bit of a pain now, constantly back and forwards

I've had this issue since my tbox was changed over a year ago, its been to the garage 5 times for it and they haven't been able to solve it so far. Its currently with them at the moment, been with them for a month and they haven't sussed it yet but they said they have a case open with MG to work on it. If your garage finds a solution i'd be keen to know!

Thanks for jumping in on this. Can i ask something, when you open the app, does the last updated field show when the tbox was changed or prior to that?

I have escalated it with mg uk today as i had a call saying i need to update the app. I dont know how many times i need to say its not the app. It must be something to do with communication between the cars main brain and the tbox.

In my eyes, this is the simplified process.
Car talks to tbox, says im this car with this id, reports battery level etc.
Tbox communicates with server on its mobile number assigned when first built, reports id and state of car.
Server checks id, if it matches, server is updated.
App logs in to server and gets update.

Now, if the tbox is changed and the id of the car is not assigned to the new number in the tbox, when it reports to the server, it will fail the id check.

I may be completely wrong with this but the issue only appeared after the tbox was changed. So frustrating.
