Any thoughts on whether there is any real difference? Currently looking at a Zappi which has both tethered and untethered options.

It will be in the garage (as that's where I park my car - I know it's unusual... ?), and I'd probably just buy a type2 cable to sit there anyway even with untethered... there is some talk that it "future proofs" the charger, but is it realistic that there will be a move away from type 2 connectors within the lifetime of the charging unit anyway, so that's not much of a consideration?

I always go for the tethered, saves a lot of mucking about. Mine is also in the garage near the door so I have the choice to charge outside or inside the garage

My tethered Zappi is in the garage and the lead goes under the door.
The only issue I can see if the EVSE is the other end of the garage and your next car has the type2 socket in a different position.

I have a tethered Zappi in the garage and it's extremely convenient. Future proof be damned.

When the car is garaged the Zappi itself is about two feet from the charging port. The lead is also long enough to allow the car to be charged if it's parked on the drive outside the garage door.

The only downside is that the Zappi's backlight goes out very quickly and after that I often can't read the screen. I keep a torch handy to solve that.

I can park next to my charger so don't need the extra length. So I went for untethered. As I can take the cable with me if I need to charge. Saves buying a extra cable.
