Doesn't work permanently - at least not for me. I gave up on it months ago and now put up with continuing 'key-less' and using door buttons which always works albeit perhaps less secure. I live in a fairly safe suburban town and there appears no problem with 'reversion to standard' behaviour. It does it without me wanting it! Since there is interest in this, I've just tried again (in the rain and darkness!).
This is what I get with my car:
The car is fully locked and fully 'off'. The last action to get this state was a button press on the driver's door.
I do two quick presses on the key fob button for 'lock' - It's already locked, of course.
Car responds in the usual way by flashing all indicators. However instead of responding with the 'I'm locked' instead it keeps flashing for a long time. I counted 30 repeat flashes before it eventually stopped and the car remained locked.
Holding the key fob in one hand, I tried the door button AND IT WOULD NOT UNLOCK. Success?
I pressed the unlock button on the key fob; the car appeared to unlock and I opened the door to verify it - fine. That's all the good news there is, I'm afraid.
With the door closed, I locked it with the key fob - except I couldn't. The car would not lock with the key fob. I tried the door button and it locked. This meant, of course, that the door button was 'live' for locking an unlocked car but 'dead' for unlocking a locked car - half of what we want without the other half.
Now the really weird part: thinking that leaving the car locked with the door button disabled is better than nothing, I tried to repeat the whole process. I could put up with the car flashing 30 times every time that I leave it - but NO. The car won't have it! The quick double-press on the key fob no longer starts the extra-long 30-times repeated flashing. How come? That's it - failure. Now I'm going indoors wet and dejected.
