Hi Jonperry64Hi STG. I'd be interested to hear your views on the MG4 vs the yeti now you're a few months down the line and have had a chance to get used to the MG4 idiosyncracies. We are currently trying to decide between a Yeti and an MG4.
Let me say this about the Yeti....It was great. What I really liked was the 4 wheel drive, huge space in the back, it felt solid and I got about 37 mpg
The reason she went was that we had her for 10 years, my spinal injury was causing me to have kangaroo fuel and I would get grumpy in traffic jams as my left leg would spasm doing the clutch.
We then looked around at the many sub £40,000 EV and tried sitting in a few, they had to be comfortable with my injury but none where until we tried the MG4. I sat in and it was perfect and comfortable so bought it on the spot.
So, now I am 1 year on (as of today the 26th) here is what I feel.
The MG4 is way better in everything (apart from rear boot space and 4 wheel drive).
It is so smooth to drive, did I say it was smooth to drive. My left leg never spasms now when driving (because it has nothing to do now). The acceleration is great for getting past slow moving vehicles very quickly.
The inside is great apart from lack of rear passenger light, the infotainment is OK (Though the Yeti did do MP3 better as it could work with folders etc, I can't get my Trophy to do this so given up trying.
Bluetooth is hit and miss, so to solve all this I bought a wireless Android Auto stick from AliExpess (See in the accessories section which one). Now my phone is rock solid plus the music works great and uses playlists etc now.
One slight issue with the AA stick is that if my wife and I get into the car together most times it will not start AA as it appears both phones are trying to attach to the AA stick, so I have worked it out that if I unlock my phone when sitting down in the sit then the stick picks my phone first however I have to keep moaning to the wife as everytime she gets in with me she has to unlock here phone as she is desperate to access Facebook and I keep moaning at her to stop doing this when getting into the car as when she unlocks the AA picks her phone first. God, 2000 times I must have told her you don't need to check to see what x friend is having for lunch/tea/breakfast but alas she still is unlocking her phone before her bottom his the car seat!!!!!
To get round all this I just pull the AA stick out of the USB socket and plug it back in however because there is a 40 second delay she seems to have to get into facebook again!!!!!
So MG4 is great for my needs but can be better in a few places only if they spent a few extra pounds in the design and thinkng especially as China mass produces MP3 players by the millions so how hard is it to put folders into the mix etc, allow the use of saved settings so you can easily recall everything (OPD by a push of a single button on the steering wheel) also a rear passenger light.
Allow OTA updates on software (instead my dealer wants £198 to update the infotainment system). You can update the Nav Maps but it's a fiddly process (see the discussion elsewhere on mgevs) but it would be great if it was a simple process.
I wish the cameras all recorded to a SSD so you don't have to buy a separate dashcam (see thread about dashcams, I took out the interior light and connect a 12v to 5v convertor that has a usb plug output so eveything is hidden away behind the rear view mirror)
When the interior light was out I put bright LED's in so it's a lot brighter in there now)
So, for me it is the MG4!!!!!
Now only the charging aspect, I had solar panels & 18kW battery installed a year ago and also got a 7kW EV charger installed as well. I swapped onto Octopus energy Flux and charge during the 15p cheap rate between 2am - 5am and then if the sun comes out during the day and once the house batteries are charged to 100% then the MG4 gets the electric. So it only costs me next to nothing to charge the car. I i purely do it on the 2am to 5am slot several times a week if only cost me £9 to fully charge the car where as in the Yeti it was £100 to fill up.
So if you get an MG4 and you have the space to plug the car in at home then get an EV tarriff from Octopus or other energy supplier and charge in the cheap hours.
