Tyres - lethal

On Friday we fitted a pair of Uniroyal Rainsports to the rear of our MG4 EV.

The tyres are NOT compatible with the car at all. It appears the sidewalls are far too soft, the car is unstable around the back end so much that even normal driving brings on the ESR warnings at normal highway speeds.

The car is dangerous with these tyres!

Have you got them at the right tyre pressure?

Absolutely. In fact I've tried everything up to overpressured by about 30% to try and stiffen them up. No luck.

Absolutely. In fact I have tried both softening them and running them right up to 42 psi without any luck.

Looks like they do 2 versions - 95Y and 91Y and only the 95Y is XL rated, so hopefully the correct one was fitted...

A quick search suggests they also do 97W and 99W as XL rated, although I didn't check if those were available in the right sizes for the MG4.

How many miles on them ?
Some tyres take a couple of hundred miles to bed in.

Yes.

Long established tyre specialist. They do company fleet and private fittings. Have used them for more than 10 years.

Yes they are XL's

This is not bedding in. They feel as if they are 'tucking under' the car is directionally unstable and the ESP light keeps triggering at 60 mph plus

Did you ask for these tyres to be fitted or did they suggest them? If the latter then they need to change them for a more suitable tyre.
I'd also go back and get them to check they have been fitted correctly.

Not specifically asked for. Given a price and requirements for load and grip level. These were suggested as they were on a list of accepted tyres for the vehicle.

Yes I can see this turning in to a £300 fight!

Hello I also changed my rear tires at 27000 km and I took landsail quirin 990 EV XL and I have the same problem I drove 300 km and it improves a little in terms of rear stability but the rubber being softer I have the ESP triggered regularly as soon as I accelerate the pace... I regret having taken these tires perhaps I should have taken pilot sport or primacy

Turanza 6 are the best fit for the MG4 (with the exception of the X-power)
If your car came stock with Turanza T005 they are most likely made in China with a different compound to the ones found in Europe.
Make sure if you get Bridgestone they are either made in Spain or Italy as the compound is compatible with the conditions found in the UK and the rubber used is of higher quality.

A tyre that is unstable enough to trigger the ESP under normal driving conditions is not acceptable IMHO!

What is the load rating on them?

I'll check this weekend. Car is currently sitting in Manchester airport car park and driver is away in the sunshine!
