Unexpected hazard lights.

I have noticed when I am sitting in traffic, behind another vehicle, on several occasions I have seen from the reflection of the vehicle in front, that my hazard lights can sometimes flash several times. No warning lights or messages displayed, and the car continues as normal.This has really got me puzzled as to why this happens.

I believe that's a feature, not a bug. See for example this post.

Do the indicators flash when using OPD

Hi, I switched on OPD (One Pedal Driving) the other day to try it out. Whilst I was slowing down I could see in the reflection off the car in front that my front indicators were flashing. Does it do this in OPD mode and why, is it to warn someone in front? Do the rear indicators flash also? [...

This is the rear collision warning system. It warns the driver behind that they are driving too close. The hazard warning lights also come on when you brake hard, but you then have to turn them off again yourself.

If it’s the rear collision warning, why does ‘pdm1’ see them reflected by the car in front of him, and if “you have to turn them off yourself”, how far do you drive before you notice they are still on?
The rear collision function is included in the on line manual, but it only shows the rear hazard lights working.

I have noticed this also, The hazards just come on all spots as they are not independent like the indicators. It is very disconcerting but once you know it its ok

Hi, yes they flash several times, then turn themselves off.

It does make sense concerning warning a driver at the rear.

Sorry, what I wrote is a bit confusing. I wrote about two things. The rear collision system and the emergency braking, which also turns on the hazard warning lights, but you then have to turn them off yourself.

For clarification - I attach the manual refering to this system. The manual does not state that only rear lights flash - I guess all of them will flash, they work just as pressing the emergency button.

If this functionality is causing inconvenience - please check if RCW can be turned off permanently from the menu.

I have turned mine off because it senses cars on other lanes which in my opinion could be distracting to other drivers.

I have the exact same car, registered Nov 24.
Somebody just pulled up next to me to ask if I knew that my hazards were going on and off intermittently. Had no idea. Asked my daughter to get out and look as I drove down our empty street and she said it flashed v quickly. Will call dealership first thing and let you know what they say.
