I have a Samsung Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S22. I have 8 USBC-USBC cables. No combination of any of these work in either the front or rear USBC sockets of my MG ZS EV Trophy Connect. All cables and both phones work in any combination with a power adaptor and also with a computer for data transfer and power. YET - none work in the car - just nothing when I plug in. With one of the cables I get a message on the phone saying "USB device not supported", but all the others (4 of them are official Samsung cables) just nada, absolutely nothing. If I use the same cable and same phone (any of them) with a USBC to A adaptor and plug into any of the MG USBA ports they work fine (including Android Auto), so nothing wrong with the cables or phones.
The car went back to the garage for a couple of warranty issues so I said the USBC ports aren't working. When I went to pick up the car they just said "Oh yes it does" and a technician came out with his phone and cable and showed it charging his phone. I plugged his cable into my phone and yes, it showed as charging which completely flummoxed me. I have literally tried 8 different cables, all of which work everywhere apart from the MG so what's special about this bloke's cable?
So, I need to order some kind of magic cable, but how the heck do I know what cable to order? I might end up buying 10 more cables and still find none of them work.

When you say none of them are working - you mean for charging or data transfer/Android Auto?

Only USB-A port can be used for data transfer / Android. And as for the USB-A to USBC cable - it has to be a good one, I tried 4-5 until I found one that works (before ditching it for wireless AA dongle). Keep trying different USBC to USBC for charging but don't waste money on "special" cables ...

Just for charging! That's the weird thing, I have never had a USBC to USBC which doesn't charge, but they also all work for data transfer with the computer yet in the MG they don't work even for charging.

Think we need to ask a question here - where did you buy your [working] USB cable - please supply buying links….

Do you know where you bought your cable that works? As I said said, I have 8 cables that work literally everywhere else but the MG, so I don't know what to look for if I try to find one for the MG. Who knows, I could buy 8 more before finding one which does.

Just as a point of note - USB-A -> USB-C works to charge our iPads - the USB-C ports do not.
Interesting that sounds the same. Except that the technicians cable worked in my phone despite all my own cables not. I really want it to work because I usually have my phone in the AA socket and my passenger often wants to charge her phone at the same time.

I tried 4 USBC-USBC cables including 2 from Samsung earphones and they didn't work on my Sony phone front or rear. I then plugged USBC-USB-A female and then USB-A-USBC into that like an extension and that worked ? ...
USB-A front and rear charges fine...

Well, I tried this one and it worked... But, it's from work, used to connect laptop to desktop monitor so no idea what specs they are and where they are from...
Quite thick and long, also provides power to the laptop

So, USBC definitely works...

Edit: USBC to USB-A convertor also works ! I'll get link for it here

UsbA to USB C I bought it on Amazon

That seems to be correct, but not in my case. My Samsung is being charged from the USB-A to the Samsung's USB-C, but when I click on the Android Auto icon on the screen, it says to CONNECT to the USB port?? Someting wong here with Samsungs??

My Samsung works fine with USBA to USBC for charging and android auto. But it didn't want to work from the USBC port. I thought someone said that was for iphones. But my USBdongle plays music through it OK

It should work as a normal USB-C port for charging but doesn't. Just another example of the cheapo components they use in these cars. Last week I rented a car in Spain, a basic Citroen C4. That had wireless Android Auto (as do most cars these days, except MG) but also the USB-C port worked fine with my normal cable/phone - the same cable/phone which just doesn't work in my ZS EV Trophy but works in literally everything else.
By the way, if you get a USBC-USBA converter, then use a USBA-USBC cable it works fine. Just not directly with a USBC-USBC cable. Just weird and I'm starting to hate this car.
