Not an MG
Hello, I just bought meself a MG Cyberster GT , Ivory White, Black Roof, Black-Grey Interior. I was wondering if the MG Cyberstar is V2G (Vehicle to Grid) ready and usable as a battery for my home?

I don't think anyone is making a V2G vehicle as yet?

Plenty of us using our vehicles V2L though.

Myself for example, uses the car to supplement my battery bank as I am completely off grid.

I would have thought the regulations and hoops that the utility companies will make motor manufacturers jump through, to make V2G safe, will be very long and very thorough.

Some of the vehicle manufacturers were surprised to learn that their vehicles were V2G compatible, according to a recent video. I think it's a matter of whether the charging firmware can be "tricked" into enabling the contactors to the DC CCS pins. This makes essentially a direct, high current to the vehicle's battery, allowing an expensive, well certified external box do all the DC→AC conversion and synchronisation with safety.

I'm pretty sure that BYDs are one such vehicle, so I would not be surprised to find that MGs are also compatible with such a V2G box of tricks. Don't expect this box to be inexpensive; the high power conversion electronics is expensive, as is the R&D and the certification process. One day this will hopefully become more affordable and commonplace.

As vehicle manufacturers realise the sales potential of V2G readiness, they will likely change their firmware so that the V2G inverter manufacturers don't have to do anything tricky to connect, and maybe the process will merge with charging. So you plug your EV into this V2G box when you get home, change a few settings in iSmart 4.0 (say), and it charges and/or exports according to your wishes. Some people might even get a cheque or credit from their electric utility, under certain circumstances.

You are in UK? I'm in Belgium, not sure what regulations are here. But if I uderstand well, you use the battery of your MG to charge your home battery? Also interesting and even easier I think.

There are no regulations when you are off grid !! I have a similar set up here in France as Bricktop X PWR. I use my MG Marvel battery to top up my home battery at night after it has been charged via solar during the day 👍

(y) see also this thread...

We have a home MicroGrid system which has a 16A Commando Socket input that we can program to pull any power level from any AC source, including EVs with V2L. Details in this post.
