Weird clunk

Very odd one….

Driving along one day at around 25mph I got the most unnerving clunk with weird almost split second loss of power. It sounded mechanical like an auto box banging into gear or really short harsh change. No warning but thought it may have been the emergency thing whacking the brakes on heavily (I’ve never experienced it doing it that I’m aware of, just get the collision warning a few times). There was a pedestrian wandering on and off the pavement on a corner. Nothing since.

Backing down to garden going from D to R got a similar thing like a gearbox being wound up tight with that mechanical thud like you’ve put an auto into N or D whilst still rolling if that makes sense? Did I not just have the brake all the way on and it’s took the slack up in the drive train? Related, unrelated idk ?

Could have been the pedestrian causing the first braking issue.

If you are parking on a slope it is quite possible to get a clunk as the parking pawl engages if the handbrake hasn't held fully. You can also get a clunk when starting on a slope. I put the car into drive and keeping my foot on the brake release the handbrake before moving off.

I've never thought about all the different systems on a car that can do braking on an EV, when they operate and how they interact. From the comments in various threads we seem to have:
Hydraulic brakes operating the pads.
Parking brake. A small motor operating the pads?
Parking pawl. A tooth engaged in a cog when stationary.
Emergency braking. Via Hydraulics or something else?
Motor Regen. Passive. Recharges battery.
Motor reverse thrust. Active. Used by OPD to get to a standstill??

Probably my imagination, but the last one in the list is what it feels like is going on.

Can anybody confirm / correct the above for me please. Thanks.
