Honestly, what NEXT with this car.
Taking people into town, the rear centre belt is as tight as a guitar string and won’t budge.
So the middle passenger is unbelted and we suffer the warning all journey.
When we get there I fold down the seat to see if that would help the mega taught seatbelt and the seat won’t go back up!
So literally nowhere for two passengers to sit and they had to get the bus home.
What a flipping EMBARRASSMENT of a car.

Leaks, vibration, TPMS errors, now this.
700 miles and 240 of those have been trips back/forth to the dealer…

Not looked - does the centre belt have two clips - one to enable a lap belt and the other for the normal across body fitting? (I hope you can understand what I mean). If yes, is it possible to release the first clip?

I'm wondering if the belt has been fitted such that it's already activated the ratchet, so it's not possible to pull it further. So releasing the first clip (if it exists) may release the tension.

Yeah I know what you mean.
But I can only see three belt clasps and all are empty.
It looks like the centre one is just a normal over the shoulder.

It is a bit of a juggle to get the seats back upright and clipped into place as the bottom pops outvof the hinge.

It’s definitely centre belt related.
I could post a video my daughter took for evidence, but I don’t think the language would be allowed.
I think this may be the proverbial straw with this car, I’m just so fed up of it.
I’m at the stage where if the ‘icy road’ warning comes up I assume it’s another issue.

I wouldn't necessarily say this is an MG problem. I had exactly the same thing happen to my recent ICE car, an Alfa Romeo Giulietta, the day before its MOT. I had to remove the back seat and unbolt the seat belt reel from the car to give the belt enough slack to then retract slightly and free up the ratchet.
It's definitely a problem that can occur with any car fitted with inertia reel belts. I know that's not much help for you personally, but I'm getting fed up with folks blaming MG for problems that are not specifically of their making.
Having said that, I still believe MG as an organisation suck, but the car is still a winner in my book.

I've been thinking about this issue, and I've noticed that every time I've come across it, it's always in a vehicle with fold down rear seats. I wonder if its a case of the reel retracting beyond its normal range whilst the seat is laid flat.
