Hi new member here

I know it will affect range my new mg4 is in desperate need of alloy wheels

Any one have any ideas or anyone now pcd and centre bore

Cheers

Sweeno

Just take off the wheel trims and buy yourself some centre caps for a few quid...?

I might try this too see what it looks like, it's usually around 5 to 10% hit on the range.

Sounds a good idea, but the gap to the wheel arches are massive, maybe some spacers and new trims will do the trick.

Any ideas on pcd and centre bore ?

already a thread on this a few pages in, Jester has already done it, here is one of the pictures he posted

Just paint the original wheels black, this will lessen the effect.

Question, would bigger alloys not have an affect on various systems without recalibration of some sort?

Alan

If you fit bigger wheels with lower profile tyres, as long as the overall diameter and circumference are the same then there should be negligible impact on speed measurement etc.

Bear in mind that the pressure sensors for the TPMS are built into the valves.

I noticed on the Norwegian video review that the two cars had 17” grey alloys on them.
Anyone know any more about them?
I’d prefer that style over the 17” design and cover design we are getting.
(I have an orange T on order]

Paul.

If the tyres are bigger then yes, it would affect speedo calibration, range estimation and could affect traction/braking systems in theory. Perhaps MG can recalibrate for you? Not sure.

Excellent answer - it's mainly the tyre size that counts. Normally when going up 1" on wheel diameter requires a 5% drop in aspect ratio. But going wider also requires similar.

Going wider will increase drag (both with the road and aero) so is a bad idea.

Taking the wheel covers off of a Tesla M3 appears to increase drag by 2 - 3% so the MG4 is likely to be similar or greater depending on the wheel design.

If you increase the overall diameter of the tyres then your speedo will underread which is strictly illegal. The chances of getting it corrected by SAIC are vanishingly small. ABS etc will not be effectected unless you run different sizes on the same axle - such as a space saver spare.

Those underyling alloys got that nasty kind of rim edge/lip which sees tyre fitters putting metal balancing weights on the OUTSIDE of the wheel.
