Will selfish EV owners inhibit the uptake of EVs ?

This is why it’s such an annoyance to me. The fossil fuel companies BP Pulse, Shell Energy etc charge three times the home rate, when they have access to cheap, cheap, wholesale rates.

Which might be an indicator of the profit margins they are used to...

I think there's a lot of pressure on charging companies to recover their huge investment in infrastructure cost... a lot of money borrowed and taken from investors.

I beleive we're almost at the tipping point where charger availabilty causes a bit of a price war. I'm not seeing full hubs anywhere as much as a couple of years ago, even on bank holidays.

Fingers crossed my theory is right.

Tesla seem to be trying to start one. I think as more drivers realise that these Tesla chargers they've been avoiding and going to Gridserve are (a) open to their cars and (b) a lot cheaper than Gridserve, we'll see some movement. We're still seeing people going to Gridserve and Ionity when there are free spaces at open Tesla chargers on the same site, because they don't realise. Yet.

I came across a strange one today.
Got to a charger as it was showing available, a car was still there but no problem they will be pulling out in a minute.

How wrong was I, the father proceeded to take the baby out of its seat and start to feed it its bottle of milk.

This was in a bank of 4 chargers with the other 3 charging.

Considering it was on a car park with plenty of spaces and both parents on hand, surely they could have moved.
Single parent on own in midst of feeding fair enough.

Oh well.

I definitely would have asked them politely to move their vehicle to a nearby free space if I needed to use the charger.
Did you?
I think it would be very selfish to not move in that scenario.

It's likely they were distracted and didn't realise what they were doing. However, they should have done. The issue is reticence to go forward and say something in that situation, which I think we all feel, and concern about how the request might be received.

Is it possible they didn't realise someone was waiting?

When asked if finished he said yes but there's someone waiting, a maxus t9?
So they knew full well someone was waiting to use the charger asap.

Tbh we had plenty charge left, just needed a dribble to get back so chose to charge closer back on the trip back.

It astounds me how selfish some people can be.

A couple of years ago, I plugged into a Pod-Point at Tesco in Burnham on Sea. A beat up old van pulled up next to me. I jokingly said "that's an interesting looking EV". He got very aggressive and said "what's the problem, you've got a space". His mate apologised for him as he led him away. He had no concept that his actions could affect other people.

Yes, but there's something different between ignorance and malevolence.

I can kind of cope with people whose lives are a mess and who just don't think about anyone else and carry their mess around with them.

But those who deliberately go out of their way to cause obstruction... that's anither thing entirely.

I've twice remonstrated with ICE drivers at the AC chargers near my friend's house, which are almost always ICEd. People just treat them as ordinary parking spaces. One of them said, if I didn't park here somebody else would. The other said, we pay u's council tax too, which I didn't see was relevant. (I don't pay council tax in Calderdale!) There's always a come-back.

I had to wait a short while for a charger at Tebay, and when the first of the four drivers came back he was already on 97%. But then one way or another, by the time I'd finished eating etc., when I got back I was on 97% too. (Actually I did need the charge, because the bad weather was playing havoc with my car's efficiency.) Again there was one person parked in the next bay waiting. I stepped forward smartly, trying to look willing, and said, are you waiting, I'm going right now. The driver smiled and waved and said, when you're ready!

The thing about these chargers is they don't display the current % charge. I only knew about the driver before me because he had trouble unplugging and I went over to see how he did it, and at that point the SoC was displayed. Maybe that's the best way, but on the other hand it is reassuring to see where people are and that they're not all below 30% when you arrive.

That's a bonus for the MG5 owner with the new Griserve app as it shows the current rate and battery level while you are charging with the app...

It's the question of whether the drivers who are waiting can see my SoC that I'm interested in. With the MG4 app I can see my own car's SoC on that. (Though I notice it's displayed in the Tesla app as well.)
