Was pulling out of my street today when the power steering went out and a bell rang, and the red flashing ESP EPS light came on.

Muscled it back into my parking area and called MG roadside. To their credit a flatbed was here within 35 minutes. Rental available tomorrow. Hopefully it's nothing, has anyone experienced this fault? Only 5500kms purchased last January.

Unlucky @sparkwon!

First failure like this I have seen.
With any luck it will just be a loose connection or even a fuse.

EPS is usually very reliable.
Be interested to see what the fault turns out to be.

EDIT : Quick search......

Different model but same component I would have thought.

Steering Motor was faulty and replaced.

Thank you sir, good find...my cursory search didn't come back with anything. I'm hopeful it won't be out of commission longer than it takes me to use the tank of gas my rental comes with!

As a side note, been inactive for a while and sorry to see the main players here have soured on the Xpower. I hope everything works out in your favor. N

I still love my car m8!
I don't blame 'it' for the vibes issue!?

Bloody monkeys QCing the parts though.....

It's MG management im pissed off with!

Umm yup yup, I had this fairly recently
You mean EPS though right ? Electric Power Steering failure.
One other person has had it as well.
In his case, they just disconnected 12V battery, reconnected it and sent him on his way.
For me - same as you - they collected the car.
Kept it for over three weeks troubleshooting and trying to find the cause of the error …
They did not succeed. Simply handed me back the car in the end.

Wow I missed your post too. Yes I meant EPS. Thank you for sharing.

No word from them yet today, but it sounds like electronic/software gremlins - nothing physical to fix. The manual stated to immediately call MG assistance so that's what I did, I wouldn't have felt comfortable just disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it to solve the issue (though I did try parking and turning it off/on a few times before I got it back home).

Kinda worrying TBH, luckily I was only going 15mph and was close to home. Wouldn't want to reproduce that on a faster curve with the kiddos inside. I already turn off the front collision and LKA every time before setting off anyway. Can't turn off power steering...and wouldn't want to lol. That was a workout getting it back home.

In any event I'll post whatever the dealership/MG France says is the resolution when it's sorted. Appreciate everyone's input.

Got the car back yesterday, it appears all they did was update the software to R40. No mechanic present when I picked it up and I didn't have time to wait unfortunately.

So far so good in the few km driven since, but definitely not as confident thrashing it alone, or even just putting along with the fam.

One again I appreciate everyone's input here, always quick with a helpful or encouraging word ?

I infer from the above that an EPS failure is a show-stopper. I find it a strange design decision not to have a mechanical linkage between the steering wheel and the front wheels for emergency use, like most cars.

I'm sure there is ... I think only the Cybertruck has a true Steer-By-Wire system. In the MG4 it's power assisted rather than true power steering.

I would love a car to have a central joystick, 100% drive by wire, pull back to accelerate, push forward to brake, tilt left/right to steer, all configurable with regards sensitivity, resistance feel (progressive/linear etc). No problems with left/right hand drive when it's centrally located between the seats. Display in the centre that can be tilted to the left or right depending on which seat the driver chooses or simply use heads-up display. Surprised it's not on some upmarket cars yet. Steering wheels are so outdate as are floor mounted pedals.
