I am planning to stop at a Tesla centre (Cardiff) and looked it up on Zapmap to see if there were any others nearby.

Anyway, clicked on the Tesla one on Zapmap to compare prices and it says "Un-tethered Connection, user cable required."

Now this is surely nonsense. There is no way you'd bring a DC cable to a 250kw charger.

I added a comment to this effect so will see if Zapmap update the text.

But that raises the question - how reliable are apps when it comes to chargers?

Or - am I completely wrong and I won't be able to use this Tesla charger because I don't have a special cable to go with it!

Is it a site which also has destination charge points? (That could account for the Untethered comment).

No, but you prompted me to check another Tesla supercharger site and sure enough that one said the same thing.

So I think it must be a blanket statement on all the sites on Zapmap.

Perhaps because they started out with destination ones and have only recently started offering superchargers.

When I visited the Tottenham Tesla service centre they did have a number of AC chargers needing a cable looking similar the pod point bollard chargers as well as the V4 chargers. FWIW neither of the superchargers near me state un-thethered.

Yeah that's my local I go to sometimes. You can use the AC with your own cable but the DC at 45p is worth it.

I do not believe any public DC are untethered. For safety as much as anything else. :)
