Not had any reports at my branch, and no information back from MG, but I'll ask the question!@Miles Roberts CG I appreciate the oil issue is more pressing as it has some people’s cars stuck in garages. But I noticed you were online and wondered if you had any insight into this one?
Do your cars have this issue and have you had any information back from MG on it?
Thanks, it’s not an issue that stops me using and enjoying the car but would be good to know how widespread it is, and if there is a solution even if that’s waiting for MG to redesign it slightly. Not had any reports at my branch, and no information back from MG, but I'll ask the question!
That’s good to hear. Thank you to you and all members who have got the ball rolling for a fix for these issues. ?Had an update from MG (after a small chase) Apparently a communication has been sent out to dealers this morning, asking any cases to be reported so they can get an idea of numbers etc.
At least it’s on their radar properly now

I remember what cars in the 70s were like though and they were pretty terrible with rust appearing in months, poor starting and overheating common. So, yes, we forget how far we have come! ?www.mgevs.com
Excellent communication from your dealer. Would you mind sharing the name of your dealership? My dealer coms today. They’ve been excellent in fairness. View attachment 11957
Nathaniel in Bridgend. They do the first 3 services free as well. Matthew is a easy to get on with salesperson, and not one thing added to my order…..such as GAP or Ceramic protection etc.Excellent communication from your dealer. Would you mind sharing the name of your dealership?
It is good MG - have finally acknowledged both issues. Will they still sell cars with undertrays which might fall off and leaky unknown oil cars (imagine in winter if stone chips fly into what ever components are nearby. Of course they will.My dealer coms today. They’ve been excellent in fairness. View attachment 11957
Making a new undertray is a simple process (it is a simple part) and unlikely to involve a complex supply chain. It should be relatively quick. MG say there is no risk of it falling off so long as bolts are tight which dealers are now checking. It is good MG - have finally acknowledged both issues. An undertray for every single MG4 sold - assume this may be worldwide including EU.
That will be a long wait - some on the other models have been waiting a year for windscreen/steering column etc Again I admire your optimism but again like the Dragon's in the den say I'm out.......

I should have said: the dealers who know about it are adding checks to PDI and given MG know centrally, I am sure there’ll be a bulletin on this, so that all do so.How are dealers checking? Have they issued a recall?
Mind you - at least a new undertray will avoid the need to clean the current oil splattered versions once they have solved the source of the leaks.

Whether they do a recall will probably depend on the severity of both issues: if they think neither are serious, they’ll probably check during routine servicing, if they are serious they will do a recall. We should know after investigations are complete.
Remember these are often people who drive on dirt roads, but yes, undertrays cause their own issues!Search YouTube Dirty Tesla trapped dirt. All the fun of undertray issues.
My thoughts: as well as showing your dealer what other dealers have said in terms of replacement, in this situation I'd try to take the opinions out of it by asking for the official spec so you can both compare against that. That might be eg a technical drawing or just a photo of what the tray should look like. If yours doesn't match the spec, it then becomes a very black and white issue that doesn't rely on differences of opinion. Can someone please clarify this issue? I have the dressed under tray bulge aforementioned. I’ve just come off the phone from my dealer who have assured me that all models they sent out have the same under-tray issue & it’s completely “normal” and the advice form MG is that the car is still fine to drive… MG have not given notice of any recalls or any replacements to be completed now there is so much conflicting information here what should my response be to my dealer? It’s clear to me that you can see metal from the under tray of the car & surely will affect performance…
