Hey Guys,

I have not yet come across this one on the internet, but 3 of my window frames show some gaps that look not quite finished. The worst one is on the drivers side and does stand out on a white car.

I have been checking with my dealer at my local dealership and we could not find the same issue on any of the shiwroom cars. It'll be forwarded to MG.

Can you check on yours whether there is the same on any of the other MG4's?

Thanks
Chris

Can you post a pic of a good frame from your car for comparison?
It certainly doesn't look right.

Now I've seen that, the impression I get is it's only welded at the side so the unwelded joint is perhaps meant to filled with some kind of mastic before being painted and that hasn't been done. That at least means it probably isn't a structural issue, just a cosmetic one.
It will be interesting to see a picture from another car.

Certainly looks like some kind of filler has been missed prior to painting

Hope you two are right. I was worried about structural integrity or corrosion. I am really curious about MG's solution.

Id be annoyed poor quality control evidenced again. Also interested to see their fix

I am still relaxed. I have no bias towards Chinese quality and I still expect MG to come up with acceptable solutions.

For some reason I believe cheaper products may not have the same quality as much more expensive ones...

I am happy with the MG 4 and if the current issues are resolvable, will be resolved with me as customer in mind with no lasting disadvantages I will remain happy ?

Just to clarify I have no bias towards Chinese products either, I wouldn't have ordered an MG4 if I had. I do believe however that no matter the cost, obvious faults should be picked up by quality control checks

You are right. They should be spotted and eliminated by the standards we are used to.

Chinese producers are usually quick learners. I am hoping not to eat my own words later on. Fingers crossed for a happy ending ?

I'm always surprised by people who look down on a Chinese-built car and use their iPhone (built in China) to express their opinions! more than a little inconsistent.
Although not related to this, it is also ironic the people that advocate boycotting Chinese goods, because of the government, whilst similarly posting from their iphone

It would be a highly inconvenient life if you chose to avoid all Chinese products, as they also occur within most western products as well.

Most cars manufacturers like Mercedes, VW,Audi, seat etc.....cover these welds up with plastic covers..... I wonder sometimes what's underneath that plastic.

I have a mg EHS I'll be checking them tomorrow just to see if I find something.

Shouldn't there be some sort of plastic trim on there, it looks unfinished to me, there is on the ZS ?

Yes and no....

If they put plastic trim on it , you lose more space on the inside of the car.
But most'of the car brands don't use welds,... They use big ton presses to press the doorpanel out of 2 metal sheets which they spotweld together.

No space lost on the ZS, the trim is the same width as the frame and just forms a radius in the corner.

I would be rejecting that car.
Looks as if there could be cracks propogating under the paint. I'd not accept it.
