The comments from the motoring journalists echo my view of the car. It offers people who want to delve into the EV sector an excellent car at an affordable price.
It’s a pity really that most of the votes came from motoring journalists 27 of them according to the article 95% of which have very probably had the car for a couple of hours at most and it just goes to show none off them have read any owners forums.

That's been going on for years. The only E-Type Jaguars that could reach the claimed 150mph were the specially prepared press ones.Yup, only had a couple of hours in cars probably from a press fleet (not just random cars).
Any manufacturer should prepare those cars to the best they can be, and then the possibility of some cheating as well.
I well remember Ford getting caught fitting non-standard shocks to their press fleet cars.
Then there’s the distinct possibility of advertising revenue/incentives skewing their judgement.
But that would apply to all of the cars they assessed wouldn't it. I doubt very much that they treated the MG4 any differently to the others. And as you will have read it won by a big margin. It’s a pity really that most of the votes came from motoring journalists 27 of them according to the article 95% of which have very probably had the car for a couple of hours at most and it just goes to show none off them have read any owners forums.

I've made the point before that there is no review process I'm aware of that reflects ownership experience.
What Car do an annual reliability survey. The MG ZS is the only MG EV featured in the 2022 edition, where it came 2nd most reliable after the Nissan Leaf. Tesla Model 3 was 5th.I've made the point before that there is no review process I'm aware of that reflects ownership experience.
Many years ago looking at cars I could not afford , I really liked the look of the new Fiat Tipo , that also ended up Car of the year, is there something wrong with me!
I remember a mate had an Avenger in the seventies. He had to always get home before dark because the lights didn't work.??There have been some absolute lemons of COTY.
They might have been quirky or innovative, but it doesn’t guarantee the cars are good or will be a sales success.
Which COTY does anyone actually go by anyway…?
If you literally type ‘COTY 2023’ into google, the jeep avenger comes up (which will be another poor selling winner..)
Indeed and there are some notably well informed journalists part of this award including Johnny Smith (late brake show), Tom Ford (top gear). There does seem to be a whole bunch of different organisations awarding COTY awards.
But I do think some of you are missing the point. Even if the awards aren't worth a lot, the MG4 is winning many of them. Surely winning is better than not winning?!
Fixed that for you.Indeed and there are some notably well informed journalists part of this award including Johnny Smith (late brake show), Tom Ford (topFifth gear).
It is certainly true that such awards do not reflect ownership experiences. But for the MG4 winning awards to be considered a bad thing suggests a distinct lack of perspective.
I meant TGM but no worries, he writes for many organisations.Fixed that for you.(Unless you meant TopGear magazine)

Its as relevant as being voted cashier of the month on the self-service tills in Asda?Honestly, the credence given to some sources is unbelievable.
Maybe fleet news or whoever gave this award are big and respected, fair play.
But the next thing is manufacturers are crowing about awards by some dude on twitter with a couple of thousand followers.
I’m involved in comedy quite heavily and it’s become a standing joke that Edinburgh fringe posters have ‘5 star reviews’ from sources none have heard or are completely made up ( I’ve helped make some up )
All the punter sees is ‘5 stars’ or ‘car of the year’, they don’t actually check the legitimacy of the award giver.
