I reversed off a drive today and didn’t see a car passing across the back - the rear cross traffic alerts beeped and flashed both door mirror blind spot warning symbols. It did it’s job well and alerted me of a potential collision ?

Funny - I had the same thing yesterday morning!

Ah, it’s only an alert thing then. I thought it would brake for you stop the collision ?

So many people reverse out to the road. When I learnt to drive it was taught "never" to reverse onto a highway. Much easier to back in and drive out. But then again there was no parking on bends, brow of a hill, less than 30 feet from a corner or a zebra crossing, never on the kerb - need I go on?
It's now park where you like and the police or the council parking partnerships do nothing except the yellow lines which is easy money.

Some councils do nothing... when we moved to our new house, we parked the car with two wheels on the pavement, just to be courteous and not limit access along the road due to other parked traffic at the other side. No lines of any sort on the road. (Our own drive had a moving van in it at the time). Within 1 hour we got a ticket!

My Seat Ateca used to automatically brake to stop you reversing into things, it's saved me once when I wasn't paying attention. I then tested it with cones and it worked both forwards and backwards using just the sonar sensors.

Unfortunately the MG doesn't autobrake to stop a bump.

The other day was the first time I experienced the rear traffic alert kicking in, there was no drama, a car passing by, but nice to know it's working ?.
The emergency alert when you happen to have slowing traffic in front of you is brilliant, and one time I had the emergency braking kicking in, the car realized before me, that a overtaking car was about to stop immediately to enter a driveway and not a roundabout that was just in front of us. That is really assuring to have ??.

The placement of the MG charge port is a big factor which way you park on your drive.

I have always reversed into parking spaces when possible on the basis of safety and visibility. With a front charge point that is not always practical. I think the cross traffic alert is a fantastic feature and well done to MG for including it as standard.

Thats true Cocijo. Would be better on the side and it would avoid all that snow & ice build up that has been shown on another thread.

My Prius is the same front and back sensors. In fact if you put the car in drive instead of reverse when you're withing 30cm of and facing a wall, as soon as you touch the accelerator the car puts the brakes on with a startling bang.

Same when I learnt to drive too. Like others have said, I have to drive on to my property to charge the car as the port is at the front. When I reverse out it's usually about 06.30 so quite quiet, although the example I referred to above when the reversing alert came on was at this time!

I had 4 years of side access and it wasn't always easy to position the car so the tethered cables at Rapid chargers would reach especially now with Ultra chargers extra heavy duty cable being also shorter. Purely from a connection point of view I find the front charge point much easier and convenient. On the downside it usually means having to reverse out of a space. Also as mentioned the snow issue but how many days a year does the UK suffer from that? Overall I prefer a front charge port having experienced some of the disadvantages of a side port.

WIth it on the side would very much determine which way I could park on the drive. No point having it on the opposite side of the car to the fixed wallbox.

I cunningly had my box installed in a position where I could use it either end of the car. :)
