Only set the charging schedule on either the car or your charger not both. Given the choice I'd set it on the Ohme charger.

What electric tariff are you on?

Yeah for IO you definitely need to use the Ohme and not the car
See here

I have this combo - I set the limit on the MG4 (eg 80%, 100%) and I have a standing programme on the Ohme to charge during the cheap hours.

I've got the Ohme Home Pro - But I can't seem to get the car to stop the charge at 80%

Ohme have said that they have MG4 on the roadmap to build in the API so the charger can read the battery but in the mean-time I'm trying to set a healthy / battery safe limt on the car?

I slide it on the APP to 80% but it seems to charge past that, is there a certain order to do it?

Kindest,

What version of the MG4 do you have m8? Trophy/Luxury can adjust the charge level I think the SE can't... Correct me if I am wrong.

Presuming you have Octopus Intelligent?

The best advice I can give is to ignore the car charger and just use the Ohme app. As the first FAQ here says (Intelligent Octopus & Ohme: your questions answered) to get the smart tech you need to let the Ohme do its thing.

So if you had 30% charge and wanted to get to 80% ask the Ohme to add 50% and it will do it and use the best time to deliver the required charge to get you to 80%.

Important to note that for some cars where the API and Ohme DO talk to each other the process is slightly different, and you tell the Ohme the target % you want (so in your case 80%) rather than how much charge you want to add.

It's a bit confusing initially but you get the hang of it.

I’ve charged my Trophy twice now, on a schedule, on my Zappi charger and setting up has been far from a flawless process on both occasions. Yesterday, for example, the Zappi wouldn’t configure via its app so I had to do a full power-off reset. Whereas I-smart reported that a request to begin charging had failed (correctly, as the Zappi was scheduled to be Off at this point, it started to charge as soon as the Zappi supplied power and stopped - bar the balancing - once the 80% SOC I had configured had been reached.

Hi again
If i set the schedule on the ohme app it doesn't give me a start time, I want it to start off peak. Also if i put the price cap on it shuts off the scheduled time.
Thankyou
Hi Chris

There's a fairly useful Facebook group for this which I can share if you're interested, but with Ohme you don't need to schedule a start time, just an end time and Int Octopus and Ohme will do the rest. Eg I set mine to be charged to 80% by 8am the other day and it mainly charged overnight, but did do a bit about 8pm but was all charged at Off Peak rate. What's more, if intelligent octopus does decide to charge your car outside the off peak hours your whole electricity use at that time is charged off peak which is a nice bonus.

Have you read the FAQs I linked above? In particular
  • You'll need to use the Ohme app to control your charging; after you've signed up we'll disable the Intelligent Octopus app.
  • The Ohmes app's price cap feature should be switched off, as all smart charging will be billed at the off-peak rate.
  • You need to set an active schedule in the Ohme app for the time you want your EV charged by, ideally between 4am - 11am. If you don't do this, the Ohme charger will default to 'dumb' charging and you'll be paying a higher rate to charge your EV.

So the best I can explain it is that the Ohme knows your model and knows what charge it can take, but not what's currently in the car. When you set 80% on the Ohme or Ohme app, you're asking it send 80% of the model's total capacity down the cable.

The MG iSmart app has a slider under "charging management" for you to set the target charge. When your battery hits that charge level, the car will cut off charging no matter how much more the Ohme is expecting to send.

I hope this helps.

That's well put, and also worth noting to change the slider on iSmart app if you want to charge to 100% periodically (either for long journey or for cell balancing) as it can interfere with with the Ohme if not

I have the SE - Why would this be limited for the SE? I did see the toggle at one point but never seen it again since.

Yeah I'll just take a bat reading and add the extra through the app for now, I contacted Ohme and they are busy working on "solar integration" and "a better app" so it's not likely new API's / MG4 link will come any time soon.

I set up scheduled charging for the first time today but it's a bust and I can't figure out why?

I'm at home on a granny lead only, thought I'd schedule it to make use of peak solar energy between 10am and 4pm. Plugged it in and set it up via the app at about 7am. All fine.

At about 7.45 am it started charging. I went to the car, the infotainment still says "charging scheduled" and the times 10am-4pm are there. I stopped it charging and set it again. 10 minutes later it's charging itself again!

So I've unplugged and will manually plug in at 10am BUT can anyone explain this?

[As I've seen these questions asked in other threads about this, some info: The clock is set to 24hrs, both the app and the infotainment screen show the same information about settings and on/off status is synced. There's nothing to indicate the setting wasn't saved as both app and car showed the schedule.]

If using a granny charger I'd suggest just using a standard plug timer as a work-around.

You don't want the schedule in both the car and the app, one or the other. Don't forget there's an up to 10 minutes random delay on scheduled charging due to National Grid rules.

I have a Zappi and I schedule on the Zappi only, not the car, and this works fine. I couldn't get it to work from the car.

Once I got my head around what to do with the Zappi I have had no problem with scheduled charges. I only use the MG app to set the charging limit to 80%. I did do a full charge the other day over 2 days to get the car to 100% as per suggestions of charging the car to 100% once a month. I just adjusted the slider on the MG app to 100% but otherwise used the Zappi app to schedule the charger for two 4 hour sessions at off peak rate.
