Dealership prepping the car before delivery

Did you let this happen or did you insist on receiving the car without the dealership cleaning it up?

I ask given at least one poster's advice to insist that the dealership doesn't touch the car, even if that means it's grubby. The thought is that they will only scratch it somewhere or other and it's better to take it straight to a specialist detailer for careful cleaning and protection.

Perhaps more of an issue for those of us ordering the matte green, I admit, but interested in everyone's views.

My car arrives this week so if I'm going to put my foot down now's the time!

I pick mine up tomorrow and have told them all my worries and to make sure it’s spot on.

I know I read it. Mines been gathering dust in a dealers showroom for months though.

When the cars come off the ship they are usually covered in plastic film & have various buffers and packing to prevent shipping damage or garage rash. I reckon this would have been removed by the time the dealer gets it but in any case check it carefully before driving away & if there are any scratches or marks negotiate a discount.

Mine was in the showroom with a bloody great red bow on the bonnet. Not a mark to be found anywhere.

I agree that usually the car should be fine even if prepped. But I don’t really want to spend an hour crawling around and underneath upon delivery, so if I tell them to do everything they can not to damage the car and they honour that, I’m hoping it’ll mean a quicker handover and of course less risk of an awkward conversation.

I’ve not stopped asking them to check every th ing that’s gone wrong I’ve read on here and it’s been AOK until yday when he said can you come in a bit later to pick the car up. Call me an

I let them prep mine and it was fine, apart from the bloody undertray - which they didn't cause, obviously.

If the dealer cleans and preps the car any defects caused by transportation will be easier to spot than if it's covered with muck and dust and they should either repair or arrange to have it repaired. If you clean and find a scratch or chip tough.
In my view let the dealer prep the car but not apply any protective coating, and as you've already said you'll be taking it to a specialist detailer, they will polish and remove any washing swirls anyway.
