AMT Secret to Smooth transmission

To solve all of your problems regarding a complete lack of coordination between the transmission ICE and lag in EV mode.
Simply search AMT Mode for MG HS and follow the instructions to change the setting in Engineering mode in the infotainment system. It has worked for over 4000 owners who have messaged me directly since I first mentioned this on forums in January 2024.

John Smith has studied this along with a colleague since launch in 2019.
It solves everything regardless of PHEV / Automatic DCT and even Manual Transmission.

Gear shifting in EV mode, Warning

My first impression with driving my brand new MG plug-in Hybrid in 100% EV mode: The electric drive has a 4 gear transmission systeem which often shifts in a very slow way. The car halts for a moment like someone who cannot find the next gear! In the hybrid mode with 6 extra gears available here...

Changed to AMT and Mode 1 in my HS PHEV recently and had a chance to test it out last week. On a 120 mile round trip I kept the car in auto mode for the outward journey which was mainly on motorways using ACC set to 65mph. Prior to the change I used to get around 39/40 mpg for similar journeys. My outward journey finished on 43.9 mpg which was very impressive. Do most of my journeys locally in ev mode so will keep an eye on future results when doing longer trips.

Awesome ? bravo. The AMT mode is not so much about the fuel economy improvements, although they're more than welcome ? and also indicate that an engine and transmission are in improved synchronization. The AMT mode actually removed the kangaroo sluggish and rather dangerous stalling at junctions when the transmission doesn't really know what to do. !!
So well done on your change. Currently I've received around 5,000 private YouTube messages from around the world ? as happy owners of the MG HS in AMT mode.

Hi, that maybe works for standard HS but it doesn't unfortunately work on my PHEV. Just tested AMT mode. In EV mode I have the same 2 seconds lag around 80 Km/h. In hybrid mode there is still the same gear "confusion/lag/problem" in the same spot (around 80 Km/h). Maybe it provides some smoothness I couldn't grasp in my acceleration test. I just tried to see if the full acceleration lag was effected by the ATM mode, and it is not :-(
 
Rather strange that it's not working for your MG HS. I have over 400 replies from PHEV owners stating that their experience is very different to yours. Possibly it requires getting used too. However each to their own.
If you're MG HS is the new facelift version. Then in the engineering mode is a setting for different emissions settings. EU 5 is the perfect setting. ( Factory setting is CN - China 6)
Possibly worth a try.
 
Yes, I have a "facelift version" PHEV, brand new from the end of January. Maybe we can do some more testing. I suggest to concentrate on the EV mode lag that is easier to duplicate. The leg, in Ev mode, is neat and crystal clear. Are you sure that the AMT mode effects also that leg when the gear changes around 80 km/h in EV mode?
 
Absolutely positive according to the hundreds of private Facebook messages I've received from PHEV owners.
If you have the updated infotainment system. Then when you enter engineering mode. You go to page 8 in the offline configuration settings. Then look at the bottom for EMISSION configuration. Factory setting is CN- VI ( if you set this to EU-V ) This will release the potential of your ICE and sync the transmission. This has been the best configuration from the extensive research from around the world for MG HS owners.

Please report back as to your findings.

So, I need to configure both ATM mode on Page 3 and EU-V on page 8, to remove the lag.

I hope this will smooth the hybrid behavior.

I can't see how a configuration related to the ICE can effect the behavior in EV mode. :)

I will make a test in EV mode and a test in Hybrid mode and I will report back to you.

I have not done that. I have changed the configuration with the car in READY mode, parked obviously. Maybe the maps are changed but not activated.

It's very important NOT to have the engine running when you are in the engineering mode! You are basically telling the ECU to do a mini remap and it will override your command if the engine is running or engaged.
All you need to do is follow the video. And yes go to page 8 and see what emissions setting you currently have enabled. ( Probably CN - 6 ) China 6 is factory setting strangely even though Euro 6 is available in the settings. And we are in Europe ... However you want to use EU-V (Euro 5 ) !!
You will instantly notice the completely superior driving experience.

Hello. The one thing AMT can't do is damage your vehicle.
As yet and reported by over 7,000 MG HS owners, ( Including 100+ Manual Gearbox Owners) there are NO DISADVANTAGES or unwanted SIDE EFFECTS to making the changes thus far. ( Remember this AMT mode was 1st discussed in 2019 and people around the world are still driving happily in that mode. No engine or transmission components are affected as these are basically software changes to the ECU that are put there by the manufacturer. Logic says that no components are being worked harder, and thus none should wear out quicker.*

Tested, only in Hybrid mode, I had no improvement with just AMT but I got an improvement also adding Euro V. Not that the lag disappears completely but the situation improves and it is indeed better. the point is that I changed my previous car also because it was Euro V so I'm not going to set up my new one as Euro V :-) Anyway with the PHEV the lag happen only if you really stress the acceleration.

Thanks for the swift reply, so I've done the same distance a few times now along a few dual carriageways local to me and I was getting 27mpg befor making the changes.

I now get an extra 10/11mpg !

Just to clarify this is a Manual!

2023 model phev
I applied the changes.
I'm thinking of trying it in 1 warehouse. There is a high speed when shifting gears in hybrid mode, but this is not felt much. After filling the tank, I drove another 100 km and the current consumption in this mode is quite low. I will send a screenshot when the tank is empty.
Summary: The car started to be enjoyable in AMT mode ;)

Hola John,

I own a HS 1.5 Automatic DCT (no phev). I made the changes from AT (factory setting) to AMT and from NO Equipped (factory set) to MODE 1, as you recommend. Only few city km test, and YES! I felt the improvement in the DCT behavior. Better. Thanks a lot. Still pending to change from CN-VI to EUR-V, and check differences in consumption.

Do you know what is MODE 1, MODE 2, And NO equipped? Differences?

Also in page fifth, where is MODE setting, above there is another setting, "Eco Driving: Not Equipped - EcoMode1". For what is it? Somebody try? (In my car factory setting is "Not Equipped")

I can't get into the advanced engineering mode. No matter how many times I tap on the "E" it never adds the extra menu options. Any advice?

Depends on the software version. Taping on the 'E' is for the old one, in the new one is not necessary. Check on YouTube, there are videos for both versions.
 
I have an MY22, so it's the old one. I've followed the video instructions, and can get to the first engineering screen. I finally got it to work by tapping to the left of the E. I've made the changes, and will see if it makes any difference.

I also want to know, but I couldn't find more info. They said after many test, that AMT and Mode 1 give the best response from the DCT gearbox. I already tried and for the first minute I notice better behavior form the DCT.
