I just use the ACC, set to the speed limit.

I'm assuming it must be the long range and he is going by the guess o meter, mine has often shown 320+ miles range, but I've never sucked it dry to find out.

Interesting how you get a showing of 320+. I have never got 320 in my ER. Simply confirms what others have said about GOMs varying wildly.

It does act pretty leery of parked cars actually. I tend to have to use the accelerator to say "it's OK, on you go" rather than the brake to stop it. The main issue in the village is that even 20 mph is a bit much in the narrow main street outside the Co-op, but then I just disengage it with the brake. It's best used to keep to a speed limit you might otherwise exceed. In a situation where you're best not going to the actual limit, it's less useful.

I'm in Australia. I like my MG4 but I think that the software sucks. I also turn of LKA and Forward Collision stuff every time. Have been involved in way to many phantom applications. I don't trust it.

Probably wont ever buy MG again. Our dealers over here seem to be as bad as the ones in UK. Took 3 goes to fix phantom tyre pressure warnings.

Of course the average speed of the traffic did not even reach 20mph. I set the ACC to 20mph and followed the car ahead. It worked pretty well at coming to a halt and setting off again without any foot use. It even detected the pedestrian darting through a gap. On the other hand, when I left the M3 to get on the M25 east, it got confused and lost sight of the truck in front of me because the slip road had a sharpish right bend. I had to brake to prevent collision. I shall only use it on straight roads from now on.

Still nothing regarding the MG4 SE issues from either Santander UK, MG Motor UK or the local dealer. We've voiced our concern with the local dealer 2 weeks back.

We've also now had OHMe officially blaming the vehicle for the "SuspendEV" issue that's randomly stopping the car charging on Intelligent Octopus.

So adding to the list are the following issues:

• Autohold randomly stops working, this has been present since day 1. (Warning light present)
• "SuspendEV" error.

It doesn't matter what brand or model of car you buy, every now and again there will be a lemon and I sympathise with you and anyone who ends up with one. I've owned about 30 cars since 1968, most second hand but several brand new in recent years. Some have been more reliable than others but I have never owned one that had things that kept failing to the point that I wanted to ditch the vehicle entirely.

The MG4 is my first EV and it is one of the best if not the best car I have ever owned. LKA is a bit of a pain but if you drive accurately does mostly what it should. Everyone I speak to who has a modern car both ICE & EV about the LKA in their car whinges about it from "It's a PITA so I turn it off" to "the F#@$ing car is trying to kill me".

Build quality is excellent with not a rattle to be found anywhere, the dynamic driving experience is superb, & everything works with some great features. It suits me and my lifestyle & costs nothing to run as I charge from my solar system.

The software can get its knickers in a twist occasionally but sorts itself out and it is not the quickest around but is quite adequate.

The one thing I'd really like is the ability to store all my favourite settings so I could retrieve them when I start and go rather than have to enter them every time I start. Even with that I still look forward to getting in and driving it.

Don't assume that any so called superior brands will be any better - I pulled in to Stafford Ionity last year and there was a new Porsche Taycan and a Peugeot e208 (that had been picked up that morning) completely dead waiting to be recovered.

I always see Mercs and BMWs broken down by the side of the road....

Personally, I only use ACC on a motorway (when it works perfectly) - I can't see why you would use it on urban roads.

EDIT: OK, I use it in traffic jams... but not during normal driving

Your situation sounds exactly what it was designed to deal with.

You do not need to be crawling along to use it.
I have been extremely impressed with it in the past.

So, some of the regular members will know that I have been having an issue with my car lately. During the several resets I have carried out, I have had to go into settings to redo all my preferences. As a rule I have always used ACC as my default setting, and on the whole, it's pretty good...

The TJA is the closest thing the MG4 Pilot system has to a self driving mode. It makes much smaller and more frequent adjustments than ACC and on a good motorway or major road with well defined lane and side markings it will drive the car without any driver input along the straight and round bends. All the safety features (LCA, ELKA, BSD, FCW, AEB, LKA, LDWS) are active during TJA.

If you take your hands off the wheel which of course is not recommended the steering wheel sensor will tell you to put your hands back on the wheel after a few seconds.

A final update.

After taking the vehicle to a different dealership they've confirmed that the previous dealership failed to complete the following software updates bar one:

GW
BCM - ALREADY DONE
EVCC
CCU
BMS
IMCU.

As far as the dealership is concerned the previous updates should deal with the charging issue, the Autohold issue and the Android Auto issue. I don't regard this as an issue with the vehicle but more an issue with the previous dealership.

My MG4 was one of the first batch to arrive in the UK and its full of faults so dont assume we are trolls just because we dont lick MGs backside like most people on here.

The absolute killer in mine is the fact in winter the car restricts speed and power from 40% battery, i should have rejected the car the first time this happened, but i was told by MG that all EV's suffer the same way in cold weather. However i know this to be untrue now.
I cant wait to give my car back in a couple of year and i may even try and get out of the PCP deal early

The new car will not be an MG and probably wont be an EV

If anyone buys a new MG and it has any issues, hand it back immediately and demand your money back because all the dealers will ever do is try software updates but you can update lemons with code!!!

Might as well add my two bits here

I have an OCT 22 SE. So I assume it is an early model. I was unhappy with a lot of problems:
1) Oil leak (fixed by Garage)
2) 10" screen vibrated (fixed by Garage)
3) Passenger door handle stopped locking and unlocking (Fixed by Garage)
4) My car refused to accelerate or go fast in the motorway when it was raining/low battery/Higher speeds etc etc (It is software related- fixed by the garage, M101 get the garage to fix it, it is fixable for sure)
5) Bulge - still there as the garage says no solution.

And now after nearly 2 years I LOVE THIS CAR. As most have said if the garage is good they will fix the teething problems. This car is fast and responsive. The shape of the car hasn't got old. (for god sake look at BYD Dolphin. Looks like a car Soviets would make..It looks so dated) Android Auto , solid. (before you guys complain , your cord is very IMPORTANT). Get couple of good cords and one will solve your problem. Drives like a dream. Don't get me started on the AUTO HOLD (I love it). You should definitely compare it with cars under $35k and you will see it is the best. Finally software (Mehh, no better or worse than any car under £35k) In my opinion you want software buy a TESLA.

In summary, Lots of problems, didn't like the experience. All fixed by my Garage. Now I LOVE this car. I have said this before in this forum. You either buy a cheap Chinese car (eg MG) or a Tesla. Anything else in between doesn't make sense. BYD cannot touch MG at the low end or TESLA at the higher end.

Will I buy another MG, definitely. As others have said depends on the car and value ....have you seen the Cyberster

Anything else in between doesn't make sense. BYD cannot touch MG at the low end or TESLA at the higher end.

There's huge hype about BYD because of their scale and sheer size of their sales in China, which are huge.

However, for me they haven't quite made a compelling car yet - I am not keen on the looks or the performance/handling of their cars. Now it may well be that they are not aiming at me.

MG on the other hand has a string of winners now. If only they could improve the aftersales care and software updates!

I am sure BYD will get there.

In China, BYD cars have better accessories and better interiors than Tesla. And much more variety. Tesla still have the brand name and status, but it’s hard to say how long they can maintain that. It’s a bit sad the features BYD offers in China is very different to their international models.

The BYD Dolphin sold on Australia has terrible Ling Long tyres. OK if all you do is round town driving but hopeless on the open road. The software is pretty good and responsive but the bings and bongs go off all the time. There are some other nice features (& gimmicks like the rotating infotainment screen) but it fails in the drivers department.

The MG4 is way ahead & largely due to the MG4 team at SAIC (previously MG) in London (who also designed the Cyberster) and RWD with 50/50 weight distribution. The MG 4 body design was initially done by the Royal Academy of Arts in London as well.

I’m a gadget guy, and was very taken with the BYD - until I saw the reviews, and the negative comments about the driving. So I’ll keep an eye on them, they can only get better.

Agree about the looks of the MG4, though not 100% sure about the rear end from some angles. Didn’t know about the RA involvement.

I didn't know about the RA's involvement either. It seems that the MG4 was designed and built with the UK market in mind.
