HV battery issue sorted?

Hi Everyone
I am new here so please be gentle
I have just bought a 2021 lr mg5 to replace my extremely old and thirsty Mercedes.

I am slightly like a kid at Christmas with a mix of excitement and anxiety as this is my first ev. I used a few at work but haven’t lived with one.

I wanted to ask has the software fault that shuts down the HV battery when rapid charging now been solved?
I haven’t seen any really recent posts.

Is there anything else I should know? I have Been trawling this forum for tips and advice for a month or so (it’s brilliant) before buying but any advise or experience from you all would be awesome.

Just enjoy the car. I'm sure there will be many questions that crop up as you get to learn it and it's foibles. You'll hopefully find answers here when you need them, there are plenty of owners with lots of experience.
Possibly the best and easiest tip is to carry a 10mm spanner in the glove box.....handy for disconnecting/re-connecting a 12v battery terminal as a reset. A reset solves lots of silly problems, the sort that happen and people say....have you tried turning it off and on again.

Just turn it off.
With 7kW type 2 using a 'standalone' cable, plug into charger first, car second, reverse procedure when finished. You may need to unlock the car to release the cable from the car (unlock on fob or door handle. If unlocked already, no need to lock and then unlock, just unlock unless using the outside door button). Think of it as a tethered charger, obviously with that the charger is already plugged in so just replicating that really.
Rapid chargers, CCS, doesn't really matter beyond turning the car off. With car plugged in or not the charger doesn't know the car is there yet until you activate some method of telling it it is, be it app, RFID, contactless etc. If in doubt follow the charger instructions. I just plug in then deal with the charger, has always worked for me but others may have their own techniques.

Once charging you can switch the car back on if you need to sit in the car, using the footbrake and start button. This will engage the main battery but not allow it to be driven so not in a Ready state, then you can use heater/infotainment etc. without draining the 12v.

Welcome to the forum
As @Gomev mentioned turning off the car should be sufficient. However if the car refuses to charge the following method seems to work best
1. turn off the car
2. plug in the cable (not possible if car is locked)
3. lock the car
4. follow instructions of charging station

I've had a couple of instances where a failed A/C charging session has caused that.

Pulling the negative terminal off the 12v battery waiting 10 seconds or so and reconnecting it has cleared it for me when it did happen.

I have in the past also found leaving the car alone and locked for 10 mins or so to work, but I find pulling the 12v quicker (I keep a small insulated spanner in the glove box just in case).

Last time It happened I did try sending a clear fault codes command from carscanner, but it didn't seem to work.

Have you guys had any issues using any particular brand of ccs charger?
Does the 5 generally just get in with it regardless.
I am planning on keeping the car for a few years and I have seen some posts about software incompatibility and issues charging?
I know there is the Tesla issue which could get worse but otherwise has it been pretty smooth?
Or is this a non thing and an ev newby worry

Based on my (limited) experience the issues reported were with earlier sw releases that have been largely fixed by now.

Apart from open Tesla superchargers I have been able to rapid (CCS) charge from numerous providers using method in post #5.

When I do have issues with a rapid charger I'm never quite sure if it's the fault of the car or the charger especially given how badly some Chargepoint operators seem to be at maintenance of their chargers.

I try to prefer sites with multiple chargers just in case one is faulty. (It's easier than it used to be, but you do still find places where there's only 1 rapid for miles around)

Like the Rhondda . I find my nearest PodPoint very hit and miss , though I rarely use it these days
