Not an MG
Well I’m looking to change or up grade my 72plt MG5 as old age and joint trouble I’m finding the 5 harder to drive on long journeys
So I looked at the new Kia Ev 9 Air and wait for it a starting price of £65k ????
The sport line is £75k
That’s twice the cost of My 5 new so that idea is out the window

Didn't really consider it , too much like a Land Rover Discovery clone , Seems they've cloned the price range too ;)
It's a shame because ,when Hyundai/ Kia hit these shores , they were a cheaper option to mainstream marques . Not so much these days .
I've driven a Hyundai Ioniq since 2016 and , when I decided to jump to full EV , the Ioniq 5 seemed the most suitable option for my needs . There were two stumbling blocks to that , one being I think it's butt ugly .the other being the price . So I went for the MG 5 and I'm happy . Not too many long journeys but I haven't suffered any discomfort at 75

Happen to park our MG5 beside one of them recently, it’s about twice the size so price seems justified ?

We don't know the prices for the EV3 yet but people are saying £30-something,000 to over £40,000 for high spec models.

Kia make some great products, just not in the price range I am looking for. Let's hope it is cheaper than expected.

I have my doubts there are enough people out there willing to plonk £50k+ for EVs to sustain the market but we will see.

Deffo not me as my car sits in my works yard all week that’s why the MG price point fits ?

If you do a lot of driving it might be the one, I read that the long range variant should do 350-400 miles in summer.

There are some really good value second hand EVs now. Wait a year or 2 and those great products now will be a steal.
Maybe 4 years ago we, well me anyway, might have been a bit wary of second hand due at that time to possible battery longevity concerns, I think those doubts have disappeared now.
I've just bought a second hand Kona 18 months old for half the original list price. :)

How's the Kona anyway . One thing I'll say is Hyundai offer a far better support platform than MG

New prices of most EV's are very high, but look at a 6 month old or ex demonstrator with less than a few thousand miles on the clock and you can save £10,000 to £15,000 on the price. EV6 Air brand new from Kia about £45,000, 73 plate on Autotrader with under 3,000 miles £30,890

Going well so far, I'll give a detailed update once I've had it a bit longer. The Hyundai 5 year warranty appears comprehensive (consumables only for 2 years on most). Hopefully I will not need it.
AA cover same as MG so long as services are done.

On my last Hyundai it employed a similar system to MG i.e. yearly AA cover after the service

Right. For me, if you’re spending over £40k, the lack of public rapid chargers means it still has to be a Tesla.

I ditched the MG4 about 6 weeks ago after 12 months of hassle and appalling customer service. Multiple software issues, despite all updates and 2 terrifying unprovoked emergency stops.
I replaced it with a 10 month old Kona EV. It’s not quite so sexy in its looks but it’s TROUBLE FREE so far and drives really well.
I also have an EV6 GT s-line, now 11 months old an simply superb! No issues, great drive.
You get what you pay for and the MG4 was shite!
A low mileage, 1 yr old EV6 for 30k or less would make a super purchase!
MG need to do better with the MG4, it was the worst purchase of my life.

I think you were unlucky. There are lemon MG4s about, maybe more than there are of other makes, proportionately (I don't know), but there are also a lot of cars giving little or no trouble. Not much consolation when it happens to you though, and I'm glad you like your new car.

The Kia EV3 looks very interesting and might suit you.
An advance description can be found at https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/news/new-cars/2024-05/2024-kia-ev3/ and the release date will probably be towards the end of this year starting at about £30,000.
Kia will send you updates if you register at Keep in Touch.

Don't most Konas have near new batteries? Brother-in-laws late 2018 got a new one as a result of a recall late last year.

I think it was the 2018/2019 models that were recalled for the battery. there was also a later recall for a BMS software update.
