MG5 Trophy LR
Hi All

I own an MG5 Trophy and recently found this forum. I was reading on another thread yesterday about how it is sensible to do a battery calibration charge occassionally, by fully charging from less than 10% to 100% to balance the cells etc. The thread that I read also suggested disconnecting the negative terminal on the 12V battery to do a hard reset beforehand.

I have therefore just disconnected the 12V battery and then reconnected it. However, when I then restarted the car it has thrown up a million faults (forward collission unavailable, auto emergency braking unavailable, stability control fault, traction control fault, autohold fault and many others!). The car still drives but I have loads of warning lights (I think probably all of them!)

What on earth have I done and how can I fix this?

Help!

I hope you didn't disconnect the HV battery. It is the 12V battery that has to be disconnected to perform a reset,

Thanks, all. Yes I did turn it off, lock it etc and then turn it on again but that didn't fix the problem.

I also drove down my drive and back up again (to test that it was driving ok, which it is) but that also didn't fix the problem. I did not, however, turn the steering wheels to the extreme or wind the windows down etc, so I will try that.

It is currently charging now and so I will allow it to get to 100% and will try these things in the morning and hope to god it solves it! I assume that it is safe for me to drive with all the warnings (if it's not fixed in the morning), and suppose I will no choice but to make a journey to the MG dealer to see if they can clear the faults !

Normally when you disconnect the 12 V battery , all these faults will appear at start up . They should clear when you next start up though . If they're there permanently you may need to contact the dealer

Before you go to a dealer turn the car off, disconnect the battery again, wait a couple of minutes, connect it back and repeat the procedures mentioned above.

When I disconnected my battery I forgot to tell my wife luckily she didn't panic and drove it up the road and the warnings stopped.

I don't think that the MG5 needs the windows reset but my dealer said that it was important to move the steering to full lock on both sides and back to the middle so that the car knows which way the wheels are pointing.
From reading posts here, I would guess that all of the warnings would be gone by the time you drove to the dealers.

I had a battery disconnect done by an AA tech... he said to drive the car for 10 minutes or so and the faults should reset their selves... and they did.
