Picked up new Xpower today from MG dealership in Poole, it has software version R40.. the touch screen seems a little temperamental, sluggish even non-responsive sometimes.. saw some posts suggesting updates fixed this for some people? any tips on anything else I should specifically complain about beyond the touch screen to get the later software versions? R46/59?

I believe people have mentioned that the latest 1300R39 is much more responsive. (Same as I find 1100R33 much more responsive on my SE).

You will get used to it.
It just requires a positive tap.

Your used to your phone being instant to the touch.

I suspect your phone cost £100's whilst the touchscreen in your car cost less than £50. (SAIC bulk purchasing means it may have been less, much less!)

It's a shame they skimped on things, but that's what makes the brand such unbeatable value.

It's a mediatek system which is the cheaper end of the market.

I have a mediatek tablet and it reacts exactly the same as my cars screen.

Anyway forget the software and get your foot down!?

Which colour did you choose?

Oh and Welcome.?

EDIT I have R46 and the software is updated but I don't find the touchscreen experience is any different.

I have noticed that when touching the screen it is quite eager to detect a swipe rather than touch if your finger slips even a bit on the surface. That can make some elements which don't react to swipes feel unresponsive, for example the tabs on the vehicle screen. I have adapted my touches into a kind of quick and hard pokes to minimize finger slip... The matte screen protector maybe helps because of that as well, as the textured surface reduces slipping.

Just remember, as with all touch controls, the harder you press the less responsive they become.

Think I have only had a couple of instances when the R40 release in my XPower has not reacted, most of the time seems OK.

Ambient temperature as well as finger temperature can also impact responsiveness

I agree, found this to be the case as well, about 90% success rate. R40 software version, which Im not bothering to get updated, unless necessary.

Good tip !! ... another tip I have also found is that a slightly moist / sweaty finger tip seems to work better than a bone dry finger tip.

Ya see @JonnyG, that's where I've been going wrong!

My finger tips, for the vast majority of the time are bone dry!

Partly because I hate leaving finger prints on the screen and partly because I'm still in the habit of applying hand gel every 5 minutes.

Anyway, I had always assumed that the touchscreen working, was to do with the electrical current being generated in your body, then being detected by the screen?

So the quality and cost of the components will definitely impact performance.

As per my comment up above, my phone never misses a touch and works perfectly.
But my phone was expensive.

The screen in the car was not.

I don't have an issue with it though because I know what it needs to make it work.

(Deliberately and conscientiously avoided mentioning anything to do with the words sweaty and moist)

Of course in olden times we had paper screens with graphite styli which many would moisten with a swift saliva slurp prior to making their mark.
NOTE this was in the scrupulously clean pre Covid days when life was simpler and you could share ?

Back on topic…I did use one of the rubber ended pointer pens to tap the screen on this car and the EV6. I too hate leaving finger marks, however its not ideal to use when on the move. I have also fitted the matte screen protectors that don't seem to show the finger marks as much.

Don't get me started…chalk and a piece of slate……

I've just googled and was surprised to see at least 5 types of touchscreens on the market!

Anyway whilst waiting for my MaccyD's (obvs) I have been touching my screen with the very lightest touches I can manage and it responds every single time across all pages and options.

I'm not sure if R46 is anything to do with this because as I've said earlier I dont now have an issue with my screen.

Just been on a journey to Chester and back. Deliberately used the pointer, it worked every time, so will start using that again

These are the ones I bought. The microfibre covering is better in my opinion, I also use on my iPad. A lot of places sell them and might be an answer for some owners.

Thanks for the replies.. bummer I was thinking it was Software issue.. everything else is good.. with the exception of not being able to enable one pedal driving when the battery is fully charged.. is there a defined % that it re-enables.. just got back home from a short trip and it's 95% and it wouldn't enable while I was driving. I got a white one.. on lease.. had the dealer remove the calliper covers.. I asked for them to be put in the boot.. they didn't and claim they disposed of them so getting all demanding with my lease broker who was middle man. I don't want them but I would think the lease company would when its returned.. assuming they noticed!

Have got the one pedal operating at 90% charge, annoying as the EV6 was straight away. Dont understand why not 100% as you are discharging the battery as soon as you drive off.
However mostly use below the 80/90% so not an issue for me.

Mine is a lease as well but plasti dipped the covers black.

Enjoy your car.
