Car battery (parking in the sun)

If in 10 years your battery is at 80% would you charge it to 80% of 80%?
No, I think once it gets to that age and SOH, you might as well just charge it to 100% every time.

I think you would still charge it most days to 80% on the screen, which now represents about 80% of 80% (i.e. 64%) of the original maximum range. Still charging to 100% for longer trips, knowing that you'll require more frequent charges than when new.

I still charge my 2012 Nissan Leaf to 80% (it only has 80% or 100% options) most of the time. It's uses an early generation chemistry, and no thermal management of the battery.

As I have an OBD2 dongle I could have read the battery temperature over the last few days but I forgot ??‍♂️
I checked the battery temperature when the car was baking in the sunshine on hot days, but not being used: it read the same as ambient temperature. And mine is a black car.
The cabin was an oven.

I thought this thread was going to be about this.

The Birmingham Mail seems to specialise in sensationaist headlines, FUD and CTs. Chris Moniz seems to be all over the place spreading EV FUD, although he appears to work for a company that sells EV chargers.

As I wrote in my post above, the battery temperature even after leaving the car to bake in the sunshine in hot temperatures isn’t any higher than ambient temperature. And that means it’s unlikely to ever be an issue in this country.
And I would imagine the BMS will engage the battery cooling system.
On cars without liquid cooling that might be a problem but I don’t think it’s an issue worth noting in the uk:
