Battery Life down to 242 miles rather than 275

From the hints and tips thread.

To be clear it is not the battery life that is down it is the estimated range based on the charge level and driving history.

Personally I can't get anywhere near 4.3, I am topping out at about 4. But I suppose maybe I am doing something wrong or just driving too fast. Yes I am using ECO, energy saving and AC on with fan set to 1.

Here's from a recent all motorway trip - charged en route once.View attachment 27554

That's properly commendable with that mileage!!!

I always laugh with some folk coming on here bandaying about a 5+ mi/kWh and they have only done a few miles!! EASY!! ?

Monday - Cornwall to North Yorkshire so slight tailwind and warm. ACC set to 65mph, AC off apart from about 15 minutes. 2 recharge stops at Tesla. @tsedge the killer is the AC - you would do well over 4 without it I think.

Happy with that! Service on Friday...

That's excellent for an MG.
Just shows what can be achieved if you are prepared to make the effort.

And IMO it is an effort!

I get 4.3 regularly, must be your right foot.

Hi, as you can see per photo. Recently, my battery life of the car is saying it's max'd at 242 miles, which is weird because for the previous charge it was saying around the 275 mark. Car is MG 4 EV Trophy Long range.

I drive on Normal mode. I have the pre-heating setting off. The AC was off too.

Not too sure why the drastic change?

Also, is there an option to default to drive eco mode rather than normal mode as it just resets to normal when I choose normal?

It very much depends on how you've driven the car. I'm now getting a full range of 319 miles from my MG4 TROPHY LR

As you can see I get 5.4 miles per kWh on a long mixed route journey. My brother does the same journey but he drives in a sportier manner and gets 4.8 miles per kWh.

I'm happy to get 3.7 mi/kWh over a prolonged period. I am on the motorway every day though and usually set my cruise to 70 mph so maybe that's why.

Not possible for me to get anywhere near those figures of 4.8 or 5.something. I'd have to switch the AC off and drive at 40mph everywhere.
You don't have to turn AC off , use it when you want it turn it off when you don't. It's about anticipation, accelerating gently, and slowing gently also. Keeping momentum is also key .

I can do that in flatter areas, but suspect I may struggle with the hills and congestion around Paignton where @tsedge lives.

Just drove from Lanarkshire to Manchester Airport and back with 4 adults and 4 cases! My word does that make a difference on the economy! Locally it feels like the range never goes down but on this motorway trip it was very erratic! Each time I charged it said I had enough for range but that quickly went lower and another service station top up was needed. Not a big deal as journeys like that are once or twice a year max. Tebay chargers are quick and nice settings it has to be said. Farm shop is more expensive any charger

It's just not possible with the hills. You lose too much with regen losses. Every journey from home is hobbled by it.

Hi your fully charged mileage will always differ for various reasons, but mostly due to what your average economy figure is. The range is only what the car is estimating, as to how far it thinks you will travel, based on that current economy figure.
There is no default to eco mode along with a lot of other settings, Im afraid.
It will also vary on how an individual actually drives and their traffic routes etc, just like in an ICE car.
Dont worry too much about it and enjoy your car.

Use search function top right regarding these and any other questions you may have. Lots of info on here, although not always easy to find.
We did our first 100% charge in our MG4 LR ahead of a few days away. On the way home we watched google maps counting down along with range remaining falling. Arrived home with 31 miles left after 230 miles driven. Hopeful it'll get us the 190 miles ho the Poole ferry terminal in one go. Hoping the 12 kw charger at Poole railway station is free for a top up while we dine pre-crossing.

I would suggest checking the availability of other chargers in the area, rather than rely on the availability of one charger. Larger capacity 50kwh or better would be more beneficial for a faster charge.
