I am a biker and all new bikes are run in for about 900 miles and then serviced. Dealers emphasise the need for the run in period and any sign it has been ignored, the warranty is invalidated. The service is a check and oil change, the oil usually being contaminated with residue during the manufacturing process. I remember parents running in cars, but thought it was a thing of the past, till I saw the MG3's manual, which instructs on a 900 mile run in period. Do not exceed 75mph, do not apply high revs, do not run the car for long periods at the same speed. The dealer said nothing about running in and there is no 900 mile service.

We are just back from a holiday with the car, so after 2 weeks of ownership it has done nearly 800 miles. We were careful and have treated that as the run in period. Is anyone else running in for the first 900 miles?

Yeah I have I’m at around 800 now and tempted to put my foot down a bit I mentioned to the salesman and he gave me a few courtesy calls asking if I had done my 900 yet but that’s all

I didn’t know this was a thing either so after 900 miles do you need to take it back to the dealer to check? And to
Keep low revs / under 75mph until them miles?

Sorry if I sound daft ?

There's no mention of it having to go back to a Dealer after the running-in period, you can just gradually increase the revs and speed after 900 miles or so.

For reference, this is from the Owner's Manual.

Great thanks for this both yeah I didn’t think it would be a service at 900 miles was more did they’re want to check oil levels etc but happy with that just play by the rules for first 900 miles lol ?

I’ve never looked so much into a bloody car before I’ve brought one I think I really know the MG3 now haha!

1 thing I can’t seem to figure out though a lot seem to have trophy specs (I went for SE) as not fussed about the keyless entry and other bits but with the SE model does it still have the engine start/stop button so no need to turn engine on with key to power the engine I’ve looked everywhere and can’t seek
To find anything, I’ve tried looking on auto trader at SE and Trophy models inside and from what I can see there’s no key slot on the SE (inside) unless the camera angle of the photo is hiding it a little I’ll upload the SE one.

There is no key and I believe all the 'tech' is basically the same on both cars.
Once in the car I put the 3's fob in the handy little driver's door pocket. Put foot on brake pedal and push the toggle start switch, still on the brake, turn knob to D take foot off brake and you are off.
Nobody has picked up on not exceeding the stated 3000rpm - funny - there's no rev counter and one has no control over the engine anyway! I reckon half of this must be out of an old ICE type drivers handbook.

I got mine a few days ago did a cheeky motorway run I can confirm that the maximum speed is 115 mph ? it did bring me back down to 104 after though
Brilliant that saves me risking the cameras/cops round here. Are you saying that the car settled at a max of 104?
I guess top speed isn't really the idea with '3s' but I do find the low speed grunt something else after the original ICE '3s'. Safely getting up to speed entering motorways and climbing steep hills is a revelation!

Yeah it flew down the motorway at first then it was like it remembered it was limited to 104 mph and just slowed down gradually I think it could do 125/130 mph easily.

The MG3 is billed primarily as a city car but what is it like at a 70mph cruise on a long motorway journey? I am thinking mainly about noise level and seat comfort. How does it compare with what you had before (whatever that was).

Compared to MG3 its a limousine. At 70 there is less wind noise, am not really aware of engine noise and road noise is much improved too. The ride is good, it also copes so much better with our roads and potholes too. It just feels like a larger car. Seats maybe less supportive but OK for me. Am not so happy with the foam covered plastic steering wheel, the MG3 had a proper leather steering wheel as did the MGFs - think we deserve just a little bit of the real thing here.
