Got in my MG4 Trophy extended range just now, only to find this bolt on the driver's seat. There wouldn't be any obvious reason for it to have fallen out of my pockets and i'm the only one that drives the car.

Just one of those worldly mysteries or could it be from somewhere on the car?

The only other item that could be the culprit is my Stoplock Pro steering lock that i put on each evening, but had a look at that and it all seems solid.

Any ideas?

Stoplock I reckon.

I've not seen anything like that in my car.

The funny thing is, that has some locktite on the end.

Clearly not enough as it has fallen out!?

I have a theory about stuff that goes inexplicably missing, never to be seen again.
If you take your concentration off something and absentmindedly put it down somewhere.
It's normal restraints to this reality is broken, and it can wander off to an alternate dimension.

When things mysteriously appear, it's this in reverse.

I'd have the metal of that bolt analysed, I'm sure a good metallurgist, could tell if it's native to this dimension.

It could be ghosts or mischievous spirits....

For example in my little workshop in the garage my main PZ3 large pozi screwdriver went missing a few months back (Every tool is hanging up in it's right spot of the walls above my main workbench) , looked everywhere for weeks, then last week I went from the workshop out to the kitchen to make a coffee and came back to find it appeared on my workbench right in the middle of it.... The only other person who access my little workshop in the garage is the wife and she knows nothing and was not at home that day.....
Lots of other funny things have happened over the years and I blame my Dad (passed 7 years ago) of doing these things....

Im a model railway (not toy trains) enthusiast. There are a lot of small items involved, that go missing, mostly on the floor!
My method to retrieve them, if a ‘man look’ fails, is to drop another similar item deliberately and watch where it falls.
9 times out of 10 I then find the item I had lost! I suppose the law of Physics is involved, but who knows!

That's an equally good theory to mine, especially when the stuff reappears close to where it disappeared from, I've had that as well. Search high and low, then a day or two later, it's right there in front of your nose.

That different coloured few threads on the last bit of that bolt look like stripped threads, usually indicates the wrong length bolt was used and the thread actually failed while tightening it Probably happened during assemble and it has taken this long to fall out.

Things also reappear when you've bought a replacement.

I lost my sat-nav. Could I find it? After a month of searching I ordered a replacement because I was about to drive to Brittany on holiday.
I went into the garage to get the steps so I could reach the suitcase on top of the wardrobe and as I carried them into the house the old sat-nav fell off one of the treads. How it got there I'm still not sure.

I think your pocket is the most likely source. I've had a look in my car and my stoplock and there's nothing like that socket cap (a bolt that has a recess for an allen key) anywhere in the car. Also the fasteners in the car are all black.

Medical???? have you had any procedures needing plating , shoulder , back, femur perhaps loosening off !!!!
With regards to other answers, I once came downstairs and could not find my slippers anywhere, a hour later happened to want something from the fridge........... that would be the Theakstons.

Some time ago I had a knife disappear from a matched set that hangs on its stand in my kitchen. At the time I had a cleaner and thought she might have thrown it away by accident. But since then, when I had no cleaner and actually very few visitors because of covid, a fork also vanished from the set. I presume the two wanted to be together.

Also, the radio sensor to track my cat's radio tracker collar vanished. I had it when I replaced the battery in the collar, but then when I needed it to track the cat, it was gone. It can't have left the kitchen, it wasn't as if I'd been out searching with it, but it was nowhere to be found. I even fished the rubbish bags out of the bin and went through them, and found the torn rubber cover for the tracker unit I had discarded when I changed the battery, but no sensor unit.

Poltergeists. It's the only answer.
