Bridgestone Turanza T005 EV tyres

Hi everyone,

I have the MG 4 Trophy which came with 18” 235/45 R18 98W Bridgestone Turanza T005 EV tyres. Please look at picture attached.

One of the tyres has a screw in it. It’s been like that for several months, and I thought it was was stubborn stone. But checked the other day and it is indeed a screw. The tyre hasn’t lost any pressure in all these months, but now that I know it has a screw, I just want to change it.

I usually go to kwik fit to change tyres but Kiwkt fit does not have this tyre available. Looked on Halfords as well, and they don’t have it either.

Did others come across this problem as well?! I don’t want to put a different tyre.

If the screw is in the tread and not the sidewall you can get it repaired and the tyre will be fine. The screw may not have gone all the way through the tyre.

I once got a fork stuck in one of the tyres on my Land Rover. I was providing off road courtesy rides at a Scouts funday, and had obviously been left behind on a previous camp. The fork did not go all the way through the tyre. I removed it, and kept it as a memento.

As per above, if it's in the central 75% of the tread width then simply get it repaired.

As above, just get it repaired if it's in the repairable zone assuming of course that it has actually penetrated.

Here is a photo of the screw. I don’t know how to tell if it’s safe to remove or if it’s repairable.

The standard Bridgestone Turanza T005's fitted at the factory to the MG4 are made in China and when I tried to source them in the UK due to an unrepairable puncture, I was told they are not available in the UK. I ended up fitting two Bridgestone Turanza 6 ENLITEN XL tyres at Halfords as I wanted matching tyres on the rear axle. Looking at the tread patterns of the two tyres, I would probably have been OK with one original Turanza T005 and a new Turanza 6 on the same axle. However, given it was the rear axle I didn't want to take any chances.

I'd be 99% certain that is repairable. You can only be completely sure when the tyre is off and you can inspect for internal damage.

I had one repaired with a screw lodged in a similar place - no issues whatsoever, and it’s been a good 5/6 months since the repair.

Don’t remove the screw yourself as it’s helping to keep air in the tyre at the moment. If you remove that you’ve left a gaping hole for the air to escape!

How much should I expect to be charged for a tyre repair like this one?! Ballpark. Never repaired a tyre, only had to buy new ones.

Last one I did was about £15 but that was a few years back. It would be a good idea to contact a few independent tyre places and compare prices.

I was recently (well, whenever my puncture post was put up) quoted £29.50 from Kwik Fit Carmarthen, which is the main reason I did it myself.

Not that I think £29.50 was too much, all things considered, but prefer to do things myself if at all possible.

Compound vs. Tread pattern. Compound is more important and you have literally no way of knowing if they’re the same or not.

£20 plus vat was my latest puncture repair - you might get better service from a local independent as opposed to a big chain.

I had a similar screw in mine a couple of months ago. It was repaired FOC by my dealer because I have a service plan with them.
