Xpower tyre pressure recommendations and wear

Hey All,

When I got my Xpower I set the tyre pressure to the recommended 37psi as specified in manual and didn't think much of it.

So after 3000km I decided to check the wear on my Bridgestone Turanza T005 EV tyres and was surprised to see uneven wear.

Approx 6mm in the centre grooves
And approx 5.5mm on the outside grooves.

Sounds under inflated to me.

This made me think something is possibly not right with the manufacturer's recommendation for the Xpower considering that the RWD 64kwh has approx 130kg less weight with same tyres and also recommends 37psi.

I have now pumped mine up to 39psi and wow what a difference with handling it has made, no noticeable difference in economy yet . Will see how I go in the next few months with the tread wear.

Funnily enough I have just this morning pumped mine up to 39.5psi as the weather has got a lot colder here in Leeds (6°C last night).

If you read other threads on the vibration you will also see many people say that pumping them up to 40psi helps reduce the severity of it so I have had mine at around 39-40psi all summer but this morning when checking cold they were all back down to 36psi hence the top up.

Mine are 40psi all round, did this while testing for vibes based on @Bricktop X PWR findings. I did find the handling was better with this change.

I tried 39 myself and the ride was really firm so I went back to 37 and it feels a lot smoother as the roads are pretty terrible

37 psi all’ round is the ideal ‘cold’ pressure on the SE SR which weighs a fair bit less than the Xpower but has narrower tyres.
37 psi might be technically correct for the xpower as it’s got wider tyres with much more volume being 18inch
The problem is the outer tread of most new tyre models introduced in the last 5 years are more aggressively tassellated to compensate for the middle tread being for smoother riding.
The correct tyre for the x-power is a tyre with a tread similar to the Potenza of old (RE050A comes to mind).

Sorry I was referring to the MG4 Trophy long range 64kwh which comes with the same 18" wheel and tyres as Xpower but weighs 130kg less and still recommends 37psi all round

Those Potenzad would definitely suit the car more or any UHP tyre tbh, be interested to know how much range you would lose with a non EV based tyre fitted
