CarPlay dongle

I use the same device, and very occasionally it has trouble connecting but I think that issue is common amongst all of them. One thing I found, you have to make sure your phone does not also try to connect to the car's own Bluetooth, and only to the Device, otherwise you get problems with phone calls.

I'm not quite sure why a 'dongle' is needed. I can use my car phone without plugging the phone into anything. Am I missing something?
Depends of what you mean by “I Can use my car phone”

If you mean use basic functionality (for example play some music via Bluetooth) then yes you don’t need anything

But if you want to use the full CarPlay functionality (for example, use spotify or Google maps and many other apps) then you have two options: one is plug the phone with a usb cable to the usb port next to 12V plug

OR

Buy a dongle to connect the phone wireless to the car and enjoy the full CarPlay functionality without any cables involved

Hope it helps

The Cuarko is not pairing and although the relevant Bluetooth and wifi are both connected, the car still refuses to pair.
I also bought the CarPlay wireless adaptor for Apple and I have exactly the same problem with that dongle as well.
I disabled the MG3 connection and instructed to ignore it. I’ve tried both usb ports.
The car connects perfectly to the MG3 but seeking a wireless connection just isn’t happening right now, so for the time being I am using a cable connection.
Standing away from it for a while but will revisit when I have cooled down!
All ideas gratefully received

When you plug the devices in does it show anything on the screen to show its working - start up screen etc?

Nothing on the start up screen.
I also pressed the phone symbol to see if I could connect that way, but that connects via MG3 Bluetooth and it will not offer any alternatives. I suspect you can change the name of MG3 to a name of your choosing at this screen.

Some of the newer smaller dongles use a LOT less power than the older ones.

I've had a few of them now, a carlinkit mini v3, then couple of the Android AI boxes and now some generic usb stick looking one.

The latest one is rated at only 300ma and seems a lot more stable than any of the others I've had previously which needed 1A or sometimes more.

I'm wondering if half the problems with some of them is not being able to pull enough power from the cars port.

Well I don’t know! I arrived home plugged in the dongle, up came the splash screen. Connected the Bluetooth to dongle19, up came the iPhone apps, Siri worked fine. The corner icon was a car and that brought up all the MG3 tabs. Set WiFi to dongle19 and no doubt I can ensure I have latest software. In a word excellent. Why didn’t it work first time? No idea. Every time I get in the car the phone is connected automatically and I can boss Siri to turn things on!
