MG3 good bits...

Having posted 5 issues in the "MG3 problems..." thread, I thought, like the Carwow reviews, I would post 5 good bits...

1 - performance. It blows the opposition away. I like the turbo like kick when it comes on song. County road overtakes are a doddle. I can see it becoming popular amongst the "boy racers".

2 - space. I can sit behind myself at 6"2' and despite some criticism of the boot, it takes 3 flight bags, 2 large bags for life and room on top for all our jackets, so it can take us on holiday.

3 - interior noise levels. It is easier for front and back seat passengers to have a conversation at motorway speeds, than any other car I have had. We can properly hear each other. Interior acoustics also makes the sound system rather good.

4 - seats. The shape and combination of soft and hard padding does not feel like the seats will be comfortable. But long journeys have been without any discomfort & no neck pain, which for me, is unusual.

5 - solid feel. From the heavy bonnet, to the centre consol that will not flex, to the big door sills, it feels solid and so safe. It would be amazed if it does not do well in crash tests.

I miss a decent adjustable lumbar support as my back is terrible.

I find my foot slips of the gas, not had that before, it looks long, but it might be a positional thing.

I find it noisy to be honest road noise, but not worse than the Kia Cee'd 3, the engine sounds gnarly.

Boot tiny after the Fiesta, but not looked at the figures.

Boot lid heavy and no internal release like it has for bonnet and fuel cap.

A couple of extra star buttons would be handy.

1. Comfort. Decent ride quality without compromising handling.
2. Space. Decent levels of space for a supermini.
3. Hill hold. Great for a relaxed drive in traffic.
4. Decent fuel economy.
5. Decent equipment levels for a price that's substantially less than the competition.

I also like the alloys. They look great, are easy to clean and stay looking clean.

Yes, they are decent-looking alloys with not too many nooks and crannies. I coated mine with Soft 99 F7 as I had a bottle in the shed. This might make it even easier to keep them clean.

I like the performance in Sports mode , had some fun in ours this morning on nearly empty country roads . It hasn’t got the ‘grunt’ of our previous Fiesta ST but road holding and cornering is pretty much on par ….not too shabby for a ‘city car’

WE got talked into buying some sort of insurance for the alloys, christ knows what it covers, they don't let me see paperwork any more.

Same here Kev, but cancelled after I later read all the bumph. sounds great when the sales are going through the list of good points, but a bit pricey in the long run.

We took the paint protection thing too as it's a PCP and we have to give it back in 4 years so hopefully it will have been worth the extra spend, to be perfectly honest we got conned and carried away with the idea of our first new car.

I suspect a lot of the sales with the raft of new cheaper but reasonable cars over the last ten years has been down to the new car syndrome.

I've had PCP on my last 4 cars and always found the trade in value at three years is better, usually higher than the amount owed. I always get a few quotes first before visiting the dealers. The MG3 is actually £6 a month less than my old car!

Interesting, I thought we were locked into four years, do they give you a hard time going in early

Not at all. The new dealer makes an offer, if you're ok with it they request a settlement figure, sorts any loss/gain and pays it off when you sign up. On my last but one car I got 1500 more off 'We Buy blah blah' and paid off the balance myself. Then bought the new one from a better haggling position.

A lot of new car sales over the past 10 years have been attributed to mis-selling compensation (pensions, endowments etc) payouts, which have now dried up.

Back on topic, another good thing, so far, was the dealership. They have been good to deal with and it was the best buying of a car I have experienced.

Wow that's some good fuel economy, that works out at about 80mpg.

Hi, I am getting 60mpg with air con on all day and up to 74mpg without. That's in eco mode and regen 1

I have to assume that it's due to the hilly terrain round here.
