According to the information I’ve been able to find… the only difference between the low mileage plan and the normal service plan for an MG ZS EV is the normal one includes a key fob battery change. That’s £2 at most. I’ve been quoted £149 for the low mileage. I’m trying to find out if Cleaveley Mobile or any independent are any more competitive and if I do use them is my AA cover extended? The MG info I have found says that the AA cover is extended by one year each time they service and enter the details on their online system. My local garage can service my MG but they have no access to the MG system. Has anyone been able to get a service independently and an extension to the breakdown cover or found a service that was cheaper by the cost of getting a breakdown cover that matches the cover currently provided?

Think you have to remember that your 7 year warranty is linked to MG approved servicing - plus they need access to the MG Chinese servers to do software checks.
The physical checks for an EV are just a joke for the money they charge.
My last one said I needed new brake pads - no - my car is 4 years old and has done 1500 yes 1, 500 miles as I’m disabled. I’d want to know how they know my pads are worn if they didn’t take them out of the clamps etc also said my AC needed recharging - this is a scam IYAM and I bet the other stuff is just skipped as you don’t get a report of what they have checked or a time worked on it. Rubbish IYAM…

What service is that you need, what is your mileage and year?
Shop around with different MG dealers or sign up for service plan. You won't get AA cover and warranty if not serviced with MG.

Sorry forgot to mention this is an MG ZS EV mark 2 long range. It has done just under 7000 miles and it will be its first 12m service. I had the mark 1 Exclusive and only paid £37 for the first service.

I bought a 3 year service contract at same time as car. I was suprised that prices varied considerably between dealers for the low milage service.
On my first service (2022 ZS Ev trophy LR) i feel they basically kicked the tyres & that's all. However this is probably because I already had the tesla update completed for free, a few months after having the car.

So, if you havent had the specific updates then whoever you go with, please do insist upon them. Dont be fobbed off with 'we can only do what MG allow us to do'. (Code for MG will allow us to & make updates available, but wont pay us for our time to complete). There are other posts on here regarding this.

I also printed off a servicing booklet myself for them to fill & stamp (old school) as I don't trust I'll be able to access & prove services online when needed in the future.

As others have said, if you do go with MG service (recommend for warranty) then check they have renewed the free AA cover with the AA themselves afterwards.

If you want to retain your MG Assistance / AA cover, then the car has to be serviced at a MG dealership.
If you go third party, then you will have to provide your own breakdown cover.
Your warranty will still be valid IF the third party agent has used genuine MG service parts.

Hello

Could you point me in the right direction for the service book please?
Thank you
Rob

Hi Rob.
Sorry I can't remember where I downloaded it.
It was likely mg website online under servicing?
I've had a look now and can't find it. Also looked on MG ismart, but it just shows 'navi' & 'owner manual'.

Doing a general search online does show you can buy ready printed ones on eBay & amazon.
Sorry I can't be more help.

@Rob24 I have the service book as a pdf, which I then had printed. If I can work out how to link it on here, or to you, I will. Just need to get my brain in gear…….

Let me know if this hasn’t worked!

Perfect, thank you.
I have saved a copy and sent a copy to my work email.
I'll print it tomorrow.
Thank you

definitely call few other dealers to check and compare the prices. AA UK cover in itself is worth anything between £30-£60...

You get full cover, which is around £140 without any deals etc.

Wow, I was too optimistic on cover costs ... Anyway, if I were buying second hand, I would want to see full MG service so that in mind + void warranty + AA cover, even at £150 would be OK if there is no cheaper dealer within an hour's drive away ..

My A - 45k service was £95 but following another service in April when I bought the car second hand and that was B service at about £180...
See attached what I got from my dealer. Definitely worth shopping around and having a service plan as then you have no nasty surprises + monthly direct debit...

My first year service cost me £48 from a dealer in Bournemouth. That was 2 years ago. Think my mileage was under 8000. There are big differences between dealers for their service prices. The second service was £150 in the West Midlands. My annual mileage had then increased significantly!

As others have said you have to shop round dealers. I was quoted £304 for second year service ZS trophy long range 11000 miles. Ended up having to travel 25 miles but worth it £110 which included key batteries and pollen filter. But declined brake fluid change £65, not necessary at that milage in my opinion. Loads of rip off dealers around unfortunately.

Printed off service book too. Have them complete and stamp it each time.

I have just had my 30000 mile service brought forward from the 2 year service by 4 months and brakes are good Tyres might need replacing in 6 months but other than that all good. Can't believe that your brakes are worn already unless you drive with your foot down all the time.

One way to explain worn out brakes (but yes, this should not happen with regular driving and certainly not with 1500 miles on the clock) is to use ACC cruise control daily as the brakes are engaged quite often to slow the car down ...

I use ACC all the time as a lazy motorway driver and it saved me in a near accident (other driver fault)

Just been revisiting my old posts and came across this one. I really need to that everyone who advised me to ring around. I got my service done at Pinkstones Stoke 35 miles away but £84 and they changed the key fob battery. More importantly they showed me confirmation that they had logged everything with MG and my AA cover was extended.
