Not only am I new to Electric Vehicles I'm also new to cars fitted with Drivers assist.
So this is not an EV thing, but I'm now an EV owner so I can mention it here ??

I was driving along a route that I semi regularly use but first time in this car.
As I came up a hill, a road joins from the left and cars merge with the intention to turn right about 40mtrs further on.
It's a fast road, 60 mph and cars join and cross almost immediately.
Today a car pulled in front of me but then immediately moved over to the right to turn right, nothing the driver did impeded my journey because the driver timed it perfectly with my speed and left me room to pass on his left hand side.

EXCEPT my cars collision alert did not understand the other drivers intent and put my brakes on, HARD.
Never before have I had a car put my brakes on at speed like this.
Took me by surprise, I never knew the car had this function so another thing learned ?.

Like I said, not an EV thing just a car assist thing.

I've had to stop using the ACC, it is far too sensitive, it really doesn't understand how traffic moves or how to deal with parked cars on right hand bends, I only use it no in road works with specs cameras with my foot hovering over the brake pedal

What the OP described will happen without the ACC activated.

This type of thing is not fun when it happens in any car but try have it happening with a fully loaded 44t truck ?
I drive a 24plt MAN with this system on and when it activates fully it can even stop a truck quick
One thing I will say don’t deactivate it no matter how much a pain it is

I see, I should have figured that out I suppose but I still expect people to do the right thing though.

As for insurance companies it's about time they were more regulated in how they treat their customers when they make a claim, last time even though it was a 100% no fault, it was all done through a law firm and it just dragged on even though it was admitted that the other driver failed to put the handbrake on and their car & it ran into ours, we were in Scotland on holiday in the van at the time.

I stupidly thought the person I asked had answered.

Smoke alarms, What are you smoking???
The point is, just because you have the warning system and you have never used it so far, doesn't mean it might not be useful in future.

I don't dispute that at all, as and when so to speak.

But how is a persistent continous LOUD BONG helping me when I go down a road which has 10 speed cameras?

The system doesn't just bong. It actively brakes.

Hard.
