Steering column warranty

2nd service due soon and I want to get the clicking steering column fixed.
I have checked the warranty and it appears to be covered for the full 7 years. Has anyone experienced dealers trying to apply one of the shorter validity exclusions?

I just reading on the weekly post in the second bit a post steering failed, get down and have a look at the universal joint at the bottom of the steering column as it goes through the bulkhead. Check to see if play in this if so will need to be replaced as can come apart.
