An awful drive out today

I'm keeping an eye on the Classified ads. . . . ?

For Sale Pre-owned MG3 Hybrid+ Trophy, Low mileage, Black Pearl, One careful owner, West Yorkshire, Tel: 01535 123456
Not even done a 1000 miles in it yet Clive.

It pee'd me off so much yesterday I would have taken it back to the dealer and thrown them the keys.

We were told you could turn it off, they didn't tell us that we would need to turn it off every time we drove it or how to do it either.

BTW we don't have a land line now but the number was very close to that.

A Seat in Italy?

Almost a heresy!???
There are so many Fiat, Lancia and Alfa Romeo models!

Joking aside, I agree with you that all new cars since 2020 have this more or less invasive and more or less deactivated trajectory control.

Kev,
I feel your frustration over the ELK and agree it can be annoying and before I was aware of the shortcut to turn it off, I hated having to navigate through the menu on the infotainment screen to switch it off. However, the shortcut is so much easier and is now part of my start-up routine. It's one of those things that we are stuck with now, as no manufacturer who sells in the mainstream will want to ruin their chances of obtaining a 5-star safety rating. Suzuki has fitted all the ADAS suite to the new(old) Swift and still only came away with 3 stars.
Interestingly MG advises the user to turn off the ELK in the following circumstances:
  • Driving in a sports style or manner.
  • Driving in bad weather conditions
  • Driving on a poor road surface.
  • Driving through roadworks or construction sites.
The circumstances they list where it may be ineffective or impaired include:

• The driver indicates in the direction of the lane lineabout to be crossed.
• The hazard lamps are activated.
• The driver applies the accelerator rapidly, carries out an emergency manoeuvre or makes a hard brake pedalapplication.
• The system detects that the driver has not moved the steering wheel for a preset time period (in the mode of assist or emergency lane keeping).
• During system intervention the steering wheel isoperated (in the mode of assist or emergency lanekeeping).
• The lane line is too thin, damaged, or unclear.• Irregular or damaged kerbs.
• The vehicle is driven on the bend with a small curvatureradius, the road is too narrow or too wide.
• The vehicle has just entered a road section with lanelines or is driven on a road section without lane lines.
• The vehicle changes lanes or sways laterally too fast.• The vehicle is not in D.
• The vehicle speed is below 33 mph ( 55 km/h), or too high.
• The anti-lock brake system (ABS) and the dynamic stability control system (SCS) are activated.
• Faults exist in the anti-lock brake system (ABS), dynamic stability control system (SCS), electric power steering system (EPS), etc.

The take away from this, is if you are going to drive in a sporty manner, turn on your hazard lights.;)

There have been many innovations over the years that have helped driving such as power steering, ABS, ESC , so I'll put up with the inconvenience of having to turn off the ELK, once its via a shortcut like on the MG3 and not hunting through a menu.

I keep seeing the mention of this shortcut, but my brain seems incapable of remembering it.

ADHD doesn't help.

Can you run through it and I'll try to do a video of it then somehow I can then remember it.

Pull down from the top of the home screen, ELK is the bottom option, press on it. Press OK to confirm.

Cheers, I've seen it before but finding it again is not easy.

Is there a one stop way of turning it all off? I have to go out later so I'll try it.

In the MG4 selecting Tow Mode turns off (permanently whilst it is selected) a lot of the "assist" systems, including LKA, ACC and some others. (Unfortunately it - obviously - also turns off the rear parking sensors). Tow Mode is remembered so doesn't have to be selected every time.

Does the MG3+ have a Tow Mode option in the settings? If yes then that might be an option for some people, if they can also live without the other systems that are disabled.

I'll try to remember to check but I seem to recall that towing is limited to 3 miles per hour or something in the manual.

It's a bugger finding anything again on here m8, even when using the correct search terms sometimes.

I use the Bookmark tab to save my pages that I frequently need to refer to.

Press the tab indicated by my arrow, then you can save it to your bookmarks for easy retrieval later. ?

What do the two options actualy mean Dec? I did try just now and it'll be routine in future unless I forget, I got the amber icon top left of the dash to confirm it.

I wish they were all so easily accessed, the little buggers have made more difficult than it needs to be on purpose I think GRR GRR

Another thing was the demister, to be fair we were spoiled with the Fiestas heated screen and a simple button to clear it with the heater in about 5 seconds.

We were out yesterday and it started to rain and the Boss just talks for England so soon the screen mists up, so okay, you have four actual buttons one each for front and rear screens, a fan button and main button, none of which were set up to do the windscreen so the fan is on 100% and cold as it had been set last time to cool the car, She is clueless how to work anything so as I rarely drive it I had to open both front windows and find a place to pull over.

I think I may park it in town with the windows open.

M8, press the button with this symbol on it.

It is the demist button and will clear your screen quickly.

If damp make sure the A C is also on.

This is a generic symbol but you will have something similar.

The similar button in the rectangle is for the rear screen.

Your fiesta should have exactly the same icons?

Oh I did Brick, but you have no instant control of the temperature coming out of the vents as normal, Some stuff not used often can be under a menu but stuff like HVAC should be at your fingertips, I like a nice big knob.

The climate control functionality is tbh bloody hopeless! In mild weather set to Auto you get blasted by the coldest air I have ever experienced in a car. Set at 21 or 22 degrees, unless it's the one blazing hot day we get here in the UK, you end up getting frozen, so then you need to turn the fan speed down, which can be done from the main screen, but it takes the dexterity and steady hand of a watch repairer to touch the screen in just the right place! Usually you end up going into the climate menu, and then you have to be careful to slide the fan speed down. The same goes for the temperature.
Then in my case you then have a few more prods to get back to Carplay.
Although as a thought, IF and WHEN I get my car back from Glyn Hopeless, if they and MG Technical can get it to work (!), I wonder if I can program the right hand star button to take me back to the CarPlay screen.
BTW with regard to autonomous functionality, I get continual Phantom braking with the ACC activated. Unfortunately given our crowded roads it's all too easy for parked cars to confuse the system.

About the lane keep assist systems: I will make an attempt to have the conformity of the MG4 LKA system judged against the current EU regulation. A lawyer is looking at it.

Since I put the AC in eco mode it behaves fine. And it still works fast enough for me. Give it a try.

Not sure what version you have so I'm not sure if you have voice control.
If you do have it, use these commands. Long press of the voice button also takes you to carplay or android auto.

AC on
AC off
Temperature up
Temperature down
Maximum temperature
Minimum temperature
Raise temperature by 2 degrees
Lower temperature by 2 degrees
Set temperature to 22 degrees
Increase fan speed
Decrease fan speed
Highest fan speed
Lowest fan speed
