2 weeks ago the engine management light came on with the message engine imitation fault. I phoned MG service and booked the car in but had to wait 3 weeks.
The next day the car lost acceleration and slowed down to a standstill, after 10 minutes I managed to restart it. The next day the same thing happened, this time it wouldn't restart and I called out MG recovery. I called another service branch which booked me in the following day and gave me a courtesy car. There is a known fault of a coolant pipe blocking. This is the problem which was caused by a faulty valve. That was a week ago last Thursday. My car is still in the garage with my engine in bits waiting for this valve to arrive. I think the garage are embarrassed keep calling me because they have started texting me. The service is closed at the weekend so nothing will happen before Monday which will be day 12. MG WHAT IS GOING ON?

It's day 13 and I just had an update, the valve hasn't arrived yet. On asking if there is a problem with MG parts supply I was told that many parts which come from China can take weeks to arrive!

I have been given a courtesy car. I love the car (MG3) but I'm starting to doubt MG's reliability and logistics. I need a reliable car for work and if had known then what I know now I would have kept my 6 year old ultra-reliable Yaris hybrid.

Just an afterthought though, my MG has had problems (never broken down) and most are now ok, and it runs well. My beef is that sometimes something works ok and then it doesn’t or needs setting again. No rhyme or reason.

Good morning Ann. Unlike you, I've not had any problems with my MG3, but I do agree that various things are inconsistent. Settings change for no apparent reason, the satnav is sometimes ok, sometimes not; speed limit recognition is haphazard and warning bleeps, chirps and ear-splitting yelps sometimes make me jump. Apart from those niggles, not a bad car. One thing that does strike me as unusual is that, although the majority of my past cars have all had their own little quirks I've always grown into the car and felt comfortable after a few weeks of ownership. That hasn't happened in the MG3 and I'm still not 100% confident after eleven weeks. I must admit to being a tad disappointed. aitch

An interesting thread. Had mine since June, to be fair this car has not done that much mileage but I have still not 'jelled' either.
Is it to do with the silence and of not having the old gearbox which means you can hear if the car speeds up or slows down? Now to avoid Mr Plod we have to keep looking at the digital speedo all the time instead of the road as there is no real sense of speed change.
Another unsettling/unnerving thing is the inherent danger of using speed assist, to control speed, should there suddenly be a cyclist or a parked vehicle ahead. All the time you have to keep your finger ready to hit the Traction control kill switch or you can get somebody up your rear end!

Why do you have to keep looking at the speedometer? A glance when necessary is enough.
There is no gear change in the electric part, everything is managed autonomously;
if you exceed the speed, there is an acoustic warning, just lift your foot from the accelerator (for me always on 3) and you immediately return to the limits (big advantage of the electric); except for the warnings painted on the road surface (which it does not read).

Speed assistance and intelligent driving (which I have never used even in previous cars, it takes away the pleasure of driving) is recommended only on super roads or highways, not on city streets or extra urban with bicycles and potentially parked cars.
When I exceed 70 km / h, on roads that are not perfect or not adequate,
I often remove the "lane maintenance", which can become too invasive: drop-down menu (central monitor) by sliding your finger down (like on cell phones), touch the symbol and confirm the request;
when the engine is turned off it becomes active again.

I would have kept my wonderful Honda. The Yaris was a bit too small for me. The Honda jazz was like a Tardis.

Hi Hybrid Ann.Hope we don't have problems like Chris P.I also had a Honda Jazz and some it
31/7/24 for the MG3 Hybrid.Misd the boot.Was able to get 2 case on top of each other .Not in the MG.Second case had to go on the back seat.Also the boot in the Jazz was lower witch helped puring the case in.Bit of a struggle to get the case in.Also miss the the back seat in the Jazz splits 60/40.Not in the MG.Also I like to keep the window slightly open but in the MG get a gale force wind coming through and rain comes in.
Thinking if getting wind deflectors.

I had a problem with the engine emissions alert: it came on when I ran low on fuel (32 miles estimated). Stayed on after I filled it. Rang garage who said to bring it in asap but ok to drive normally. It was "reset" and no further issues. I did read onone forum others had problems after fueling... maybe an issue with a sensor in fuel tank/ cap.
