EV opposition in the media is ramping up

Mercedes seem to have been having some issues, some mention of possible wiring faults:

What we really need is per-manufacturer, per-model statistics with monthly publication and yearly totals.

Then public pressure can be applied to reduce the figures, whether ICE, Hybrid or EV.

If they had a recall in 2019, surely to goodness a 2022 car should be OK. Or then again, maybe not.
You'd hope so, but did they bring it in for the recall work and did the recall fix it or just mitigate it a bit?

It may just be coincidence as EV fires are still a thing due to manufacturing faults in the cells, packs, wiring or management systems. That's where better stats could shed light: are Mercedes more fire prone than other makes?

Not related, but could be. I watched a video on a Porsche bought at auction cheaply, but not working with a myriad of problems. Turned out to be a blocked water drain from the sunroof which ran through the car soaked the carpets and shorted out a hidden wiring loom , the water stopped it setting on fire. Dried out , replaced wires and car ran perfectly. Just goes to show that simple problems can go on to cause bigger issues from apparently unrelated sources.

Another slap down for the anti ev brigade 🤩
I’ve just noticed the kart racing track in Edinburgh where my granddaughter and I had terrific fun racing each other has been changed. It used to be a flat track laid out on a huge concrete floor and you powered round on very noisy smelly asthmatic petrol karts.

It’s now multi level with hills and corkscrews etc etc and the new karts are ELECTRIC 👌 with boost buttons for added oomph for overtaking 🤩🤩 roll on her next visit 👍

WOW! Brilliant! 🙂👍

On EV depreciation... I think car depreciation should be counted from the actual price paid. There are only two types of people paying list price, contract buyers (even they don't have to) and the ignorant. Anyone can get a substantial discount and for EVs this tends to be bigger than for ICE cars. Measuring new car depreciation from this point makes EVs look a better investment than ICE cars. Buying used is usually better value still but that's another discussion and not about EV versus ICE. Personally I am an idiot when it comes to the allure of a new car.
I bought my 1st EV new in 2016 with a substantial dealer & manufacturer discount in addition to the then huge EV grant. The deposit was my worthless old banger.

On Px in 2019 I swapped early at the request of the dealer with a deposit from the remaining capital of the LEAF 1, a dealer added deposit, manufacturer contribution and smaller EV grant.

So far no cost over the monthly PCP payments which were interest free and cheaper than my former fuel costs alone.

In late 2021 I again ended my PCP early, gaining a huge capital refund to use as a deposit on the MG5.

I now have the MG5 which has probably lost value. Unlike when I switched from the earlier LEAF 1 & 2, I have no reason to upgrade as the MG5 is ideal for my needs and an absolute bargain when bought.

I am 13 months away from the balloon payment and still on interest free payments.
I will take the value of the balloon payment, deduct the cost of spare wheel, tinted windows, frunk, LED lights, excess miles (a lot) and make a financial / convenience decision at that time.

I only bought new as an EV was cheaper to own than an ICE for me and the 2nd hand market didn't exist.

Today, I would only buy 2nd hand as that market is excellent & bargains galore.

More!
Not only did this Ferrari driver do a bad thing, but he totally knew he was doing a bad thing!

So that's the MacMaster …. I see he has a panel telling viewers what will happen if they leave disparaging comments. I guess that means he's already lost the discussion!
