I know there are some threads on here regarding tyres, but thought a current, all-seasons thread would be useful.

That being said, anyone know what the best options are for the MG4? I see the following:

Michelin Cross Climate 2
Bridgestone Turanza All Season 6
Goodyear Vector 4 Seasons (Gen 2 or 3)
Hankook Kinergy 4S
Continental All Season Contact 2
Avon AS7 All Season

I’m sure there are others, but these seem to be the main competitors.

I’ve personally had great experiences with Goodyear on ICE cars, albeit not all season tyres, and I also had good experiences with Hankook on ICE cars. On the MG4, I have no idea, other than what I do know is the stock tyres have become totally useless in the colder weather - the rear end has stepped out on me more times than I can remember, and all too often on roundabouts at low speed!

The car is quickly becoming like Bambi on ice skates!

Anyone with some experience of any of the above, or other tyres? Want something that grips pretty well, but isn’t so soft that I’m changing them in another 8-10k miles, as that’s happened to me in the past on an ICE car.

The stock tyres have lasted well over 20k, but I’ve stuck with them, rather than liked them. They don’t fill me full of confidence, especially on wet, cold roads.

If you can get past the cost, I can highly recommend Michelin Cross Climate Tyres.
Outstanding in all conditions on the last FWD car I owned.

I wouldn't hesitate to fit them on my 4, if it wasn't the X Power.
Thanks! Was leaning towards those, even though they’re about the priciest of the lot. How well did they last? Not wanting to splurge that amount only to be quickly having to replace them!

I only did 10000 miles on them before I traded the car, but they were still like new.

Those Michelins transformed my MG5 too. Absolutely transformed the car. I was keen to fit another two before winter but luckily I haven’t. The car’s just been traded for the new Citroen (I think I mentioned that? )
My last two diesel Berlingos were also superb on the Cross Climates.

Latest group test by tyrereviews.com seems to indicate the test winner Pirelli Cinturato SF3 all season to be a great allrounder, offering very good performance in all tests and very low rolling resistance

Thank you! Will have a watch, although not sure I want Pirelli tyres - had a bad experience with them in the past. Will still watch the video and check out reviews though!

Mine are coming up in the new year for replacement.

But I am not paying £650 for Cross Climate 2s (Black Circles price today).

Where I live, I don’t need all seasons, summer tyres are fine. Any recommendations for best choice for £100/tyre or less? (17 inch wheels on my Trophy).

I could probably get away with summer tyres too, and like you, I don’t fancy shelling out £650 for tyres. I just want all season tyres for a little extra grip when the roads are slippery (not just wet, they have that odd coating on them), as they are at this time of year, and when it gets frosty, which I’ve a feeling is imminent, and we’re overdue a hard winter too.

My plan is to replace the rears for now, and see how that goes. The car tends to do most of its stepping out from the rear, so that will hopefully transform it. If it doesn’t, then I’ll change the fronts as well.

£100 in this size is asking for either huge discounts or really budget friendly but not up to par tyres. Your stopping distances would need to be increased even more because the car in front might be fitted with decent rubber.

I have them as 18 inch. Very pleased.
A good tire shop with proper knowledge how to fit them on an mg is must though. I would stay away from the dealers.

I’ll be nowhere near the dealers, don’t worry! First time I went to one to get the software sorted only to be told they’d updated everything…and nothing had been updated!

What do you think the stock tyres are?

I'd like the best I can get on a budget, but I still expect to get something better than it currently has.

Maybe £400 for tyres is no longer realistic with today's inflation / prices, is that what you are telling me?

I paid £253 in June for two Michelin cross climate 2’s on the front of the MG5.
The original tyres were still serviceable but had done around 30000 miles. I ripped the front offside and used the emergency spare to get to the tyre depot.
The Michelin’s have been transformational. Grip in the wet (especially from lights officer😉) and comfort are very good.

These look promising:
