How does this work in the dark and dingy airport car park? Think it waould need direct access to some sort of sunlight to be effective…

Stating the obvious there. Every time I've left a car at the airport it's never been an indoor carpark it costs too much.

It should be okay, but always have a back up plan !.
Consider buying a small 12 volt booster pack and leave it accessible inside the cabin of the car.
Then on your return, if the battery is flat you can use the emergency key blade to gain access via the drivers door, then reach in and grab the booster pack.
It’s handy to have one anyway and it could save you a long wait after a late / long flight, just waiting for the recovery people !.

Do we know what the quiescent usage of these cars are when parked up? I would have assumed a very small amount compared to the "in-use" consumption.

I have no idea about loss of charge of NMC batteries, but LFP only self-drain around 1% per month. And the BMS is likely to draw only a few mA, if it is anything like the ones used for home energy storage systems.

I left my car on my driveway for 5 weeks whilst on a cruise in January 2024, had no problems when I returned all I did was unplug my dash cam to stop any power drain.

I don't suppose you happened to notice what the change in SOC was over that period?

there was no change I took a photo of the dashboard before I left, everything was the same.

My ZS needed charging after 10 days. Problem is the original 12 v battery are poor quality. Done better after original died after 13 months and now got a Bosch and no problems.

Any recommendation on type/model of battery or supplier? Did you replace it yourself ?

Bms should auto charge the 12v from main battery when the car is not being used.Quality of original battery should'nt matter for 3 or 4 years.

Just back from a Christmas cruise and left my ZSEVLR for 3 weeks in open air car park with very cold temperatures. No problems with batteries and car started as normal. Perhaps we worry too much?

It could easily have been totally flat and undrivable . . . There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it. Agree though, there's no point worrying about it, just have a booster pack handy.

I dont know if the car is woken up when the app is opened.

Sometime ago, Tesla made a change to their app. Before that, if you opened up the app, it would wake up the car for maybe 15 minutes, they changed it to only waking the car if you opened the app, and actually did something that needed the car to wake up.

If the ZS EV is woken up, whenever the app is opened, the battery could be drained considerably faster if the owner was opening the app.

The advice before was always to park up the car and NOT open the app to check battery status, as this would actually degrade the battery percentage.

Maybe it's the same with the ZS EV now ?

I parked at Manchester Airport last year for 3.5 weeks in late September/early October. No problems on return starting and no noticeable decrease in battery percentage while I was away. I do carry a small lithium booster pack 'just in case' - actually used it yesterday to help an ICE car
