MG4 Luxury
Hello all,
Having only owned a MG4 Luxury for one week and 300km, I am still learning the array of settings. One thing that is puzzling me is that the settings I change (eg Drive Lane Assist and Speed Limit Warning) appear to reset themselves as does the ECO mode reset to NORMAL when I next go on a trip. This is puzzling and has required me to drop and re-set the options before continuing. Is this normal or perhaps has been resolved in a more up-to-date version of the Infotainment software ? In which case, which version ?
Many thanks for your thoughts.

What you describe is default behaviour ... they all* do that. Blame EuroNCAP for this.

* Except for some early cars which remembered last setting for the likes of LKA/ELK, but they were outliers, not the norm.

That being the case, I assume that you have all adopted a 2 minute settings modification each time you get in the car ? Or, perhaps you are happy with the defaults ?We live in the country / agricultural area of SW France where many of the roads are quite narrow and hence it is quite normal to drive more in the centre and only go to the far right when another vehicle approaches (which is not that often !). Hence having constant warnings is not only pointless it is very annoying. Thank for your thoughts and experiences.

There are a multitude of threads on this topic - one example below:

Some people (like me) just leave the defaults, and turn off LKA "on the fly" when needed (via the drop down menu that some software versions enable); some have a "pre-flight" routine (which doesn't take anywhere near 2 minutes - please don't exaggerate). There's no single answer to this question - but this has all been discussed a multitude of times.

No, I've not adopted the '2-minute' settings modification... sometimes, I wonder if I'm driving the same MG4 as everyone else - for example, the LKA has never kicked in for me apart from a slight occasional twitch, which is completely predictable. I've left every setting at its delivery default, although I've dialled down some of the settings to 'LOW' where possible (and these are saved).

Yes, with practice though it takes seconds, not minutes!

I set the lane-keep assist (LKA) to alert, so it doesn't twitch the steering wheel; and I turn off the setting to display speed limit signs, as I've found it to be far to unreliable to be useful - and I use Waze most of the time anyway, which displays speed limits accurately.

On those twisty roads, what speeds are you doing?

The lka defaults to ELK each time. It does remember the sensitivity though.
Like MisterSkyBlueCar I always adjust lka to alert. While I'm there anyway, I cancel the speed limit signs and disable the beep.
Modes (normal, sports etc) are set under right favourite button on the steering wheel. Very quick to change. The left favourite button contains the regen modes. If you do not need to set lka while driving, you can finish the job in say 10-15 seconds.

Depends if that pre-flight routine includes getting some music to play from a USB stick. Then it can totally exceeds at least 5 minutes if you goddamn forgot un unplug the stick from the first USB slot again, so it bugs it so you move it to the second one but then after took a minute to list all the songs it get stuck on trying to read a song and you need to power cycle the infotainment system.

And I never even touch the settings !

I think I'm really lucky with the defaults on my Australian spec MG4 ER; I can live with the defaults. Though I wish it kept One Pedal Driving. LKA is very mild in mine; perhaps a little too mild.
Did you check if the ditches were deep enough or if the edges tall enough on your roads ? It has been scientifically proven that the LKA strengh is proportional to the absolute difference of levels between the road and the side of the road.

That is certainly true with me, setting the speed limiter, every time. You get pretty good at it after a while.

At times I can't be bothered and just drive it in default mode.

Hello all, to finalise this (boring for some) post, I have taken two screen shots. The first is the MG Pilot screen cold from boot up this morning. Whether some of my previous changes have been retained I cannot recall. The second shows the changes that I need to make and yes, far from 2 minutes (apologies for the exageration), the entire operation is less than 30 seconds from initial selection to return to the (say) Apple Car Play screen.
Does thsi now ring true with some of you ? Again, I wonder if a recent software update has perhaps modified this ?

Just a thought... Does anyone know if these "settings" can be configured via the car's CANBus connection. Or does the MG4 have any other user interface (e.g. ModBus over RS485) to read or set configuration parameters. If so, I'm thinking an ESP32 and a few extra physical buttons could be a solution?

Are those photos before or after pressing the brake pedal to get to the READY state? (LKA can show as Off on power up, but turns On when you go to READY).

The overspeed/speed limit stuff defaulting to On is a feature in newer cars due to EU legislation. My 2022 car doesn't suffer that annoyance.

In China, early models cannot be preserved, but can be solved by updating at an authorized store. But I don't understand your regulations
