Paulie's MG5 upgrades blog, Wheels, Suspension, Foot rest, & much more!

Today's less exciting, but important arrival, centre cap blanks. Now we await the arrival of the custom made resin dome badges to make them look the part on an MG!

Christmas came early... (They look matte in the picture because of the light, but in real life they're a deeper gloss like in the earlier pictures)

And the manufacturing date appears to be from the future too!!

(... or I suppose it could be year/month/day format, but that's far less exciting!)

Sadly MG wheel centres don't come in 65mm diameter though, so I've ordered some custom made gel domed badges and a set of 65mm blank caps to make up a set.

Today I've also ordered a set of mud flaps and a set of floor mats, the fun never stops! :)

Just need an actual car now!

PS. If anyone is interested in a virtually as new set of 17" Trophy wheels with drive home mileage only on them, drop me a PM, the price will be stupidly low as I just want to get back what I paid for my new wheels and they were an absolute bargain. ;)
Get the boot liner if you can find it as well
I was lucky and brought some good second hand ones off a forum member

Yep, that's on the list along with a spare wheel kit. :)

I might also look into engineering a frunk solution that looks like it left the factory with it as well. The EV accessories one from Ireland is nice and looks most OEM like, but they've still done no integration with the original under bonnet panel.

There’s a couple of mg boot liners on eBay one is brand new
I think there is a spare wheel kit for sale on this forum
😃👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

A full size spare wheel fits in the boot.

I bought a full wheel and tyre for 100 quid

Can’t stand space savers
Just my tuppence :)
You're quite right of course, but I think that loses the lower shelf setting too. Getting a puncture (for me, anyway) is such an incredibly rare occurrence, I'm happy to put up with a short time of driving on a space saver as long as it means I'm not helpless and at the mercy of a breakdown service, as I could well be with just the tyre repair kit.

I'll go and have a look. :)

Look forward to seeing your MG5! You've made a good start on part sourcing. Here's mine for comparison. 30/35mm lowered on 19" x 9.5" alloys, ET39. 225/40/R19 tyres, tinted windows, debadged and smaller plates.

Very nice
May I ask where did you get the springs from and how much did they cost
😃👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Certainly mate, Eibach Germany via eBay for £270 posted. Fronts were really easy to fit, I struggled more with the back with not being able to drop the whole axle down as I couldn't find any suitable places for axle stands at the rear.

Hi
Thanks for the link
I will as in contact with my insurance about lowering the cars ride height with lowering springs and they gave me a quote of £55 extra for 12 months
So as much as I would love to lower it I don’t think it’s worth an extra £55 a year
Cheers

I try not to let the insurance get in the way of me enjoying a car but I can see your point if yours is to drive around as cheaply as possible. My insurers charged me £10 extra for the alloy wheels and £25 for the springs, nothing for the window tint thankfully. But I also insure a Fiesta which has had an engine swap and countless other changes so I'm used to the prices of modified car insurance 😅

I’m like you I like to make my cars different
I wasn’t charged any extra for wheels window tints or fog lights but £5 for a front splitter
Who knows maybe I’ll have a re think🤔
😃👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Anybody knows what effect such modifications have on MG’s 7 year warranty?
In theory, unless they can be shown to directly contribute to a given failure, none. In reality, without a fight, they'll try and wriggle out of some things though, I'd expect.

For example, a shock absorber failure with none standard springs fitted, I'd expect they'll blame the different spring and refuse warranty. Same with a wheel bearing if you're running larger wheels.

Agree. And particularly as we are talking about MG. 🙄

To be honest, don't think £55 is to bad. 🙂👍

It's not, but it's money for nothing, never the less.

Why should you pay more for driving along 30mm lower?, what if you had 5 fatties and luggage in the car on standard springs?, you'd still be 30mm lower, but it'd be cost free!! :ROFLMAO:
