So, this morning just slowly descending from a traffic calming ramp, I heard what I can only describe as a boing sound from the rear of my SE and then a metallic sounding rattle! I can’t see anything obvious and the car seems to be driving okay, but clearly something has broken.

Any ideas where I should be looking to try to ascertain what the issue might be, or is it a to the dealer job? Thanks

Is it possible that a rock have gotten stuck (around suspension?)?
I was thinking maybe something around a brake heat shield but no idea if that’s the case. The boing sound makes me think it has to be suspension/spring related

Sounds like a broken spring to me. Check the tops and bottoms of the springs.
Thank you, I’ll have a good look in daylight tomorrow. Saying that, I had to drive it this afternoon and didn’t hear any noise this time, whilst the car felt perfect to drive. I’ve driven a car with a broken spring before and it certainly didn’t feel like that.

Now thinking it may have been a stone that a tyre lifted, threw up into the spring, it fired it out under compression coming down off the traffic calming ramp, and it just happened to land in the brake heat shield.

I may be way off, but I’ll get a better look tomorrow and report back. Thank you all for your replies
