charging cable problem

hello all,
I bought a 10m lead to charge the car and it worked great with my vestel charger, however the lead was too long so i purchased a 2m lead. When the lead arrived i plugged it in, it started to judder and sent the charger into fault mode.
I rebooted the charger and tried the long lead again all worked well, tried the short lead and the same happened.
Anyone have any ideas ? why the short lead didnt work.

Hi, are they both 32A single phase cables and can you post pictures of the ends and any writing on the cable?

why not return it as defective? I wouldn't risk shorting something in the car with dodgy cable ...

Hi, are they both 32A single phase cables and can you post pictures of the ends and any writing on the cable?

They are both 32A single phase type 2 to type 2. Sorry I don't have a picture and there is no writing on the cable.

Could be that the cores are crossed and it's terminated incorrectly at one end.

It may have the wrong resistor fitted on the proximity pilot pin. Can I ask where you bought the cable from?

just bought a new cable from a different supplier and it works perfectly

If the cable started physically moving, it would suggest that a high current was passed through it.

Sounds like it was connected wrongly internally as, if it was a 32A cable, your car would not be able to draw more than 32A and thus it would not be able to "overpower" the cable.

IF the cable (Copper wires) were only 16A, but the cable was sold as a 32A, it would mean, you would be drawing about double the rated amps through it, this could certainly make the cable do what you mention, but this would also mean, the resistor in the connector would have to be signalling 32A capabilities.

Inside all cables is a resistor, the value of the resistor is measured by the car and translated into a "What can this cable take, load wise".

No matter what, the cable is bad, if your car and charger works with another cable but this one does not work.
