Beginning to get concerned! (emissions fault returned)

The issue surrounds the EGR valve not closing.
MG UK became aware of the issue, and all affected cars, including my own 2 weeks ago, are being called back by the dealers to have the valve and associated gasket replaced.

Hi My brand new MG3 trophy has the fuel emissions fault coming up. I remember the man that delivered it said he had just put petrol in, so I have just been out to tighten the petrol cap. The light hasn't gone off yet; fingers crossed it does, as no garage can see me. Any advice would be great thanks.

It could well be the ‘EGR valve’. After two attempts to fix my car, MG UK told the dealers with affected customers to replace this part, with the associated gasket, as they discovered it to be a part failure.
My car went in roughly three weeks ago to have the part replaced.
Prior to this I would go anything from a week to a month after the problem was allegedly sorted, and then the light would come on again.
Currently two weeks in, still ok and MG assure me the EGR was the issue and it should now be sorted for good.
Where abouts are you located, perhaps I can recommend a dealer.

I'm in Borehamwood herts. I have tried all the dealers, they were very unhelpful. So I will travel back to Norfolk were I bought it from, as they are very good and helpful.

Try to get hold of Jay at Glyn Hopkins St Albans.
They can usually fit you in depending on whether you need a courtesy car, within in a week, or two.
They were the dealership that worked on my car, and are familiar with the issue.

I bought my car from Glyn Hopkins in Mill Hill, and their service dept was hopeless, with a six week or more wait!

Apparently the fuel cap on HEV cars need to be thoroughly tightened. If you type 'HEV fuel cap tightening' into Google you'll see that Hybrid Honda's have a warning light that comes on to let you know that the cap needs tightening, so I don't think this is purely a MG issue. Hope this puts your mind at rest.

It may be worth giving it a couple of days to reset itself. I just had another look on Google and the engine management light comes on with Toyotas if you don't tighten the fuel cap enough. Apparently you have to let the car go through an on/off cycle for a short period of time.

I have a Toyota Corolla and never had the Emissions light come on and its not a subject that has been covered on the Toyota forum. I just tighten the fuel filler cap to the first click.

I had a Renault Clio hybrid and had no issues with the fuel cap not being tightened enough but I always made sure the cap 'clicked' a number of times after I filled up with fuel. It seems hybrid cars from any manufacturer require a good seal around the fuel filler neck, something to do with the fuel tank needing to be pressurised. In fact reading into it more it appears that all petrol powered vehicles have to have a good seal at the cap to prevent vapours escaping into the atmosphere.

That's a shame. Surely if you contact the dealer from where you purchased your car they should be able to help you find a local MG dealership closer to you that could deal with this issue.

Sadly the dealers local to me have been so unhelpful. The dealers i got it from have been helpful they have told me to ring the mg aa assist before I take it back to them.

It's horrible when you get a nice new car and there's a problem, I had an issue with a brand new Toyota Yaris a couple of years ago, I only kept the car for three days and took it back for a refund. I won't buy a Toyota again! Anyway I hope things work out well for you 🙏

Hi all. My engine emissions light came on a fortnight ago. Rang the dealership who said that it had to go in to have a part replaced. I believe it’s a known fault with the Mg3. Part was on back order so obviously they are trying to play catch up. All done now so hoping that’s the end of it!
