Emissions fault

I collected my car from the dealer last Friday, and so far no light, but that said it lasted a week before the light came back on after their last attempt, so still early days,.
The dealer, as I think is usually the case, rely on MG UK Technical for instructions, and the technician did suggest changing the EGR sensor, but MG told him to apply a new software update instead.
It's entirely my guess, but I'm wondering if the update widened the tolerance for the car's ECU, so the sensor readings won't trigger the warning.
On an entirely different subject, since getting the car back, I do wonder if the economy is not quite as good, but that could also be as it coincided with the slightly colder weather.
Meantime, whilst going off topic, as has been mentioned by others, I do notice, mostly going uphill, the engine revs increasing markedly. This seems as though the engine is trying to recharge the battery.
Finally, whilst on a 'moan', being quite OCD I've noticed the gloss plastic around the gear selector and on the dash is prone to showing light surface scratches, but that could be similar to any gloss black surface.

I'm very careful not to touch the gloss black bit, I just carefully put it in gear with my finger tips, luckily there are very few gear changes to be made. ?

They were going to replace the EGR but instead MG told them to do a software update.
So far in nearly 3 weeks the light has not returned.
My guess the software update widens the parameters that the engine management will measure, in order to not trigger the problem.
A couple of points.
I was told it was ok to keep on driving the vehicle whilst the light was on, so I’m hoping it won’t have effected the catalyst.
After a longer run on Monday, the fuel economy seems to have improved. However this may also coincide with the milder weather yesterday and today.
Certainly when the weather is colder, not surprisingly the engine stays running far more.
Also I still experience the very high revs, particularly going uphill. My theory remains, that it’s the engine trying to keep the battery charged for potential greater demand. Unlike other hybrids it seems that the engine tends to only propel the ca at higher speeds- Motorways etc. The rest of the time the engine is acting as a generator for the battery.

I seem to recall a lot of the earlier reviewers mentioning that about the engine's focus being to charge the battery. It must have been in the press pack. Glad to hear, the emissions issue appears to be resolved.

Guess what! Like an old friend come back to visit, the Engine emissions warning light is back on!
It's been a couple of months this time, and interestingly my car is already booked in Monday week 2nd December, as last week the dealer asked if I could bring the car back to have the EGR valve replaced. At the time I told them that the problem seemed to be solved (little did I know!), but they said MG have asked that all cars which have exhibited this issue, regardless of whether they're fixed to have this part replaced.
This will be the third time, and along with the higher than necessary revs when going uphill, that there are serious question marks here.
The car really is a tale of two halves - I've never owned a car with so many repeating Engine issues, but on the other hand, Engine revs aside, it can be a very smooth quiet car to drive, with loads of gadgets, and very good value for money.

Ditto. I have no manual to refer to so I have got to the point where I just ignore the warning lights until I stop the car and then when I restart they have gone. Even the app does not record them anymore!

Just for info if you have this warning light (engine emissions fault) you must inform your dealer, as ultimately it could cause damage.
If you have the iSMART app you can find the handbook on there, it’s also somewhere in the screen on the car.
As I said my car is due in on Monday for a replacement EGR valve, although the warning light has gone out again.

The car has just came out off the garage after more than five weeks, they changed a valve to do with the cooling system. I don't know the name but it sounds like that might be the one.
Sounds like it was the EGR valve which actually measures the exhaust gases.
This seems to be the procedure that MG recommend. The five weeks I'm guessing is how long it took the part to arrive.

Yes it was and then they realised they needed to change a seal which then took a few more days. They said they didn't hold the stock because it's a new model and MG have only just found the fault. Sounds like the stock is readily available now.

Hello from Greece .

Mine is in service from 18 November and 5580km.

The known emissions fault error , EGR valve replacement. .

There is no stock of new EGR valves, not even in China. So the replacement cannot be done . The car remains at the dealer until new part production .

If possible to some of you who already have a changed EGR valve: was your problem solved 100% ? How many km have you driven after the part replacement ?

If someone can inspect the EGR part , on the back side there is engraved the SAIC part number . Can you please post it here ? ( It is very easy to see with a cellphone flashlight. )

Hi from the UK
My EGR failed early December at 3000 miles. Parts not available in UK. Informed I would have to wait at least 3 Weeks. I took it up with MG Fleet Aftersales in Birmingham the parts were immediately located in Netherlands and my car was fixed end of December. I informed MG that there is no point point providing a warranty when they do not have parts available. Informed routine parts are available by air freight from China within 3 weeks, other parts sent by ship within 3 months . I had no reliable car for 3 weeks over Xmas but MG offered a hire car with so many onerous conditions I could not accept it. Overall it was a bad and unacceptable experience.

I totally agree with you .

Unacceptable experience from after sales !!!

But in my case the replacement part is not available anywhere !!!

Can you please provide me the part number of the EGR ? Its engraved at the back side of the part . Easy read in daylight

I had the EGR valve replacement at the beginning of December, and so far the issue has not returned, which beats the last record of one month between failures, so hopefully all will be well for good now!
I think I was one of the earlier owners to have experienced this fault, which for me began in September and required three attempts to fix including the last valve replacement visit.
It would appear that this is a wider failure, and is as a result of a faulty batch of components, which has now come to light.
