Condensation in the cabin in cold weather

Hi all, am I the only Owner who ends up with a lot of comdensation inside the car when it's cold? I conserve battery in the winter by using the seat and steering wheel heaters but after driving a few miles the windscreen mists up because I also breathe...after a few days of this the inside of the screen is just as frosty as the outside and when it thaws it runs down (where too?) Inside the screen. I really don't like the idea of driving everywhere with a window open when it's freezing outside.....

I'm not too fussed about maximising my range so I always use AC as it dehumidifies the car. Any overnight condensation soon clears with a blast of the screen demister.

If you don't already, leave your Air Con on all the time.

But this is not unique to the MG4 is it. I have had it on every car I have owned in the winter.
Moist air condenses on cold surfaces.

Why don't you have the heater on? It only costs a couple of pence in electricity to be warm and have condensation free windows unless you are a massochist or trying to do the maximum mileage between charges. .

I can't imagine driving a car without heating in the winter. You know, like that stupid joke about electric cars freezing people.

I'll let you in on a secret. Even if it's very humid outside and you have the heater on with the air conditioning on (to keep the windows from fogging up), they still fog up.

But if it's humid, which I presume means, it hot and humid weather. Why would you have the heater on anyway.

Both my HS petrol cars also mist up terribly. My HS EV is no worse. Before i moved to MG cars i had misting but not as bad as these. I keep the front screen demister button nearly all the time because it a choice between a clear screen and the noise of the windscreen demist

My 4 trohpy LR also mists up when really cold, so to avoid too much we have the heater on most of the time, set at 25C, occasionally put the front demister on for a few minutes to clear the windows before it fogs up too much.

Yep, also open the drivers window a small amount occasionally and turn off the winscreen fan, I'm afraid you aint alone, I imagine many other EV's have similar problems.

All these fans, heated seats, heated steering wheel and AC drag down the battery, and struggling getting 200 miles range in this very cold weather, means charging more often.

My car is nearly always garaged at night, which helps a little, until you take it out of the garage.

That's the trouble though. With the AC on all the time, the windows won't mist up. But will probably effect the range. You can't have both. Personally I prefer clear windows at all times. Less range doesn't bother me, but that's just me.

During cold weather, the AC is on virtually all the time, but the rear window still does start to mist up, I'm with you, definitely do not want misted up windows, too dangerous.

Lower range and charging more frequently are a few of the evils of EV ownership, no worries for me either.

It's a matter of trial and error, but opening a window a small amount in dry weather works most of the time, there is always the juice sucking heated rear windscreen, which I've had to resort to a few times.

Thinking of a second pure EV to replace my Tucson, some very nice new manufacturers coming to the UK market this year, don't like the MG offerings for a larger car, definitely dont want a hybrid, I like the look of the X-peng G6 and BYD Sealion 7, both offering great tech, but I dont want to be the first to buy.

Came back from the river today ( 18 kms ) with three wet dogs on the back seat , huffing and puffing, any misting up was cleared in seconds on the front windows , the back screen took around a minute to clear to see , two minutes to clear fully. A/C was mainly off with just the occasional blast when needed.

Have you tried switching on the screen demist using the button below the infotainment screen?

Do you think that if the A/C and heating runs at fan speed 6 for 43 minutes and fails to defog the window in that time, that blowing on the glass with that button will help? It won't. It'll just hum loudly, maybe defog a little more, but that's about it...
